Thanks to Mushashi and his link to northstarbmw.org, I was able to read and obtain some knowledge from their tech articles. http://www.northstarbmw.org/index.aspx?ns=TechArticles#d

    1) I now know what to do to my car in preparation for the winter.
    2) I now know Amsoil 5w30 and 10w30 beats the oil competitors hands down.
    3) I now know when pushing caliper pistons in for new pads, loosen the bleeder screw to expel the old fluid from the caliper. Never push the old, dirty fluid back through the system and into the ABS unit or master cylinder.
...and much more that I'm too lazy to post on here.

    I LOVE TECH ARTICLES! :D

Me? Amsoil 5w30. :) In comparison to the others, it has a really high viscosity index and really low pour point: both needed to make a great winter oil.

dude, i could've told you all this info... i thought it was common sense to bleed your old fluids out when changing even just your brake pads... i always buy new fluids and refill things up.

I don't think it's always necessary to bleed your brake fluid the same time you do your pads. It's two similar jobs; not the same job. What I just learned is that in those occasions you just need to change the pads, do not c-clamp the piston back into the caliper because it forces fluid back through the brake system. Not good since the brake system only flows one way; will never happen again. ;)
