My shift lever has started to rattle some, mostly in 3rd 4th and 5th I think. but it does it an most gears. Not all the time, but alot. Any ideas what it would be? 04 Sti, unsure of what kind it is though, so no help there, sorry. If I hold the shifter lever I can make it stop, so Im guessing its not down inside but at the lever somewhere?
Are you sure it's the shifter, do you have an aftermarket Downpipe, downpipes have been know to rub a little. Never noticed your location before, you must be in Valley Park, that's where I grew up. Parents Still live there, so I'm there quite a bit, but I'm on the other side of the town now.
yep I do have a DP, but when I hold the shifter lever when its ratteling, it stops, so its nothing down lower I don't think.
Might want to try one of these pivot bushings... http://turninconcepts10.chainreacti...d=130&osCsid=e037ad805b14f5df505b87170fca1a70 Stuart.
My Cobb short shifter rattles against the metal ring of the shift boot when I travel 65+mph. When I hold the shifter or that ring, the vibrations/tapping is deadened. Is that what the issue is with yours too?
Yeah. Guessing if you didn't install it, you don't know if they added aftermarket bushings. I'd vote for that as the cause.
Im not sure what is making the noise yet, having a 10mo old kinda eats up the free time, holidays etc... But its been getting worse, it now really sounds like something is loose in there. I need to check it out soon I guess.
well :hsugh: its a Cobb short shifter  . and the rattle was from the shifter trim retainer nuts...two were loose, one nut was down in the grease by the bottom of the shifter. I haven't taken it for a drive yet, but I almost sure thats what was causing the rattle.
that was only part of the rattle, I need to pull off the plate thing under the plastic and trim the corner the (linkage?) is rubbing in 1st 3rd and 5th. At least now I know what it is. Still might buy some new bushings.
on my suby dude shifter the reverse lockout boot rattles on the shaft. i 'think' the cobb one is similar. i was going to take mine apart and put a length of heatshrink on the shaft.
