what os is the home PC running? specific version of vista. connect from where? local network or via a internet connection
Set a static IP on your home PC, set the firewall to route port 3389 from the outside to the static IP you set on your pc. Find out what your public IP is by going to www.whatsimyip.com. Enable remote desktop control by right clicking on your My Computer icon, click on Remote tab and allow users to connect to that computer. You may have to add users that are not Administrator to the list. Put your public IP into Remote Desktop Control on your work computer, and BAM it should connect. By the way, don't use VNC. It is a commonly used application for hacking. Especially if you are opening ports on your firewall.
I just want to play wow, when i'm bored not sure if this will aloow that kind of frame rate. can you turn down the resolution?
i have been using logmein.com and it has worked great for me. I have it installed on my mac and pc and so far so good. You have to access your computer through there website and there is a small piece of software that is installed and has to run on each computer. There is a free version and also a pro version that allows file sharing, printing to local printers and also meeting mode. I used this instead of dinking around with my firewall.
Won't work at all over RDP, as the emulated video card doesn't support DirectX, so the game won't even start. Also, neither Vista Home or Vista Basic have the RDP server, so you can't use RDP to connect to them anyway. Even if you could connect and start up WoW, it wouldn't be playable. I RDP to my home machine all the time, and webpages with lots of graphics take a very long time to display. It's about like using dialup, but worse. You'd basically need something like 100mbit both ways for it to fast enough. Edit: If you really need your WoW fix bad enough, this guy got it working: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=50725112&postcount=8 I imagine it's absolutely horrible to use, but I know how you WoW guys are (my roommate spends at least 4 hours a night online) Edit2: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/12/13/workaround-to-run-vnc-server-in-windows-vista/ There, more VNC stuff for Vista. And again, probably horrible to play.
