Ok, it's time to invest in some proper garagegear. Any recommendations on what to buy and where to buy it? I'm thinking of creeping the pawn shops but I'd rather save my time and not benefit from others' losses.

    Help me Obi Wanzes.

Went by Checker's Auto a lot these days and they got some good deals on Jacks/stand. Havn't check AutoZone and PepBoys. but jack/stands and Ramps I'll go to Checker. If you find a cheaper deal they'll give you 5% off theres.

I wouldn't buy any tools from PawnShop.

Both are handy actually. I have two sets of stands, and a pair of ramps. The ramps will be ideal to do your swaybar, since it keeps the suspension loaded. Other times you may want to have all four wheels off the ground.

I really really want a low profile jack....

Stands at walmart or harbor freight are cheap. I also got ramps at fleet farm for a good price and they are pretty nice steel ones. Like 30 bucks

I have both. Rhino ramps are quick and easy to use (bars, oil changes, etc). Northern Tool lightweight aluminum jack and 3-ton stands for the jobs that require it.

I was gonna say harbor freight for things like this... or even Northern Tool... and Checker will soon be gone as O'Reilly's has taken them over and will be shutting that division down...

    yea, craftsman jacks suck.

don't carry floor jacks in your car (only reason I can think I keep destroying them.....I'm not using them that much)

Subarus are pretty light as far as cars go, so the cheapest, lightest-duty stuff you can get your hands on will likely still be overkill.

Are there any Harbor Freight locations in the cities? that's a good place for stuff like this, but Northern has pretty good prices as well. as already mentioned, I'd highly recommend the Rhino Ramps. they're plastic, so very easy to carry/store, and pretty beefy. and at a good price.

and, like others have said, you'll have use for both. I've got 2 pairs of stands, 2 floor jacks (both leak.....damn), and a pair of ramps. and get plenty of use from all of them.

I love my Rhino Ramps, one of the best additions to my garage I've made. It makes oil changes/etc super quick and easy.

What everyone else has said about the lo-pro jack.

Had my boss by me a really nice low profile aluminum jack last year. Got two uses out of it before it leaked like a sive.

Still doesnt even hold my own weight, so I chunked it.
