So as many of you have probably noticed the new apple update got rid of the good maps app and replaced it with their horrid version. Since I drive all over the place I was pissed and the "turn by turn" is by no means turn by turn. Anyway this put me out there to look for a new map and I stumbled on Waze. 5 stars and free why not. So I get it and open it, not gonna lie its kinda fruity. However upon a brief tutorial it is actually really sweet. 1. It's actually voice through phone or Bluetooth turn by turn AND accurate. 2. All user generated info about the roads meaning you can mark police and leave a not about it! It pops up on all user maps. 3. Mark traffic, accidents, slow traffic etc as well. There are "groups" on it and was thinking if we all joined an MNsubaru group it could help a brother or sister out with police traffic etc when bombing around the cities. Idk what are people's thoughts?
Gotcha, I like it a lot. Just thought I'd throw it out there. It's been super helpful for the little bit I've had it.
what version iphone do you have where turn by turn isn't real turn by turn? I thought that was a 4s, 5, the 4 didn't get true turn by turn. I haven't used the new mapping features yet. I'm sure it'll get better with time. I remember google maps sucking when i first started using it. They've been at it for soooo long though. i'll probably double check any routes i make using maps.google.com on the iphone until i can trust it a bit more. waze isn't a bad bad option though.
I have a 4 and may upgrade to a 5. Yea the map sucks. I'm sure it will get updated. The tag deal for traffic police etc has already paid off for me w/ work
Haven't used the maps yet but the 5 is pretty awesome. Highly recommend it. BTW I didn't wait in line, I had it shipped to me.
I updated my 4s and the new maps are great... Turn by turn is great... Panaramic camera is great... Still searching for a reason to hate my phone... After a year none provided except for sprints sh*tty data service
Close out of the app and go back in. When I 1st downloaded the app nothing worked. Closed out, went back in an boom it works.
It's not even letting me re-install it now. I think my phone is just acting f'd up since some of my other apps aren't working so well right now either. I'll give it a shot when I get home.
Yea it's not bad, I just prefer iPhones. Doesn't hurt the 5 scored better in pretty much all categories either. To each their own. =)
You're obviously not over 40 yet, then! hahaha I have the Galaxy S2, wife has the S3. The S3 has a facial recognition unlock for the phone! Does the i5 have that now?
Getting back to the Waze app itself, is there a way to block your speed from being seen by others? Maybe I'm paranoid but I'd rather not broadcast that to the world (including law enforcement officers).
You use it for work. I run a route for my part time gig and use Co-pilot ($20? App that acts like a true GPS unit). The only issue I have with Co-pilot is that it's not the best at finding some newer housing developments, even with the latest map update. Otherwise it's pretty damn nice. The best is the multiple stops I can put in and it leads me through the route. Does Waze have this? And how is it with newer developments?
You can add stops to the route, I've never used that bit so I am not sure how well it works. As far as blocking speed I'm not sure i think you can make yourself "unknown" I feel ya. I was thinking the same thing when I am bobbin and weaving.

Looks like you can add stops to the trip, but you can't change the sequence without starting over. But I'm still using it for my full-time job, which requires me to be on the road for most of the day too. It's really nice knowing the road hazards and traffic conditions ahead, and seeing other users on the map (unfortunately there's about a 2-3 minute delay with where they actually are for security and compression reasons). Still has some bugs to work out, but pretty damn solid app for being free.
I'm really liking this app...it's all about user participation though, so if you use this app then you should be contributing!
I just started using this for WP7. It's the best I've used so far, paid or otherwise. I'm still likely to get a garmin eventually. The resolution speed on my phone lacks much to be desired for my purposes. Anyway... I don't understand why they're going with user-generated maps. Why not going with google/bing? Surely that would be simpler...
I've been using Waze for over a year and love it. I am also one of those people that makes sure to edit the local maps so they are accurate and up to date. I think that's one of the best things about this program. That, and the fact that it has a more realistic picture of traffic than the other navigation apps.
