Posting for a friend with a 2007 Forester. His key fob button will unlock the car as normal but not remotely lock it. Tried two key fobs - same result changed batteries - same result. Any ideas?
Try unlocking with the key fob from inside the car and listen for the actuator? Door unlock fine with the switches I assume too, right?
No problem, Ted. It's probably the actuator. It's in a big honking plastic housing with at least 3 rods going to it. Can't miss it once you have the panel off. Sometimes the plastic gears or brushes in the motor get gummed up. The Subaru ones are really easy to get to and take apart to clean.
Thank you! Where is this actuator you speak of - under dash - under the steering wheel area? PS: How's that embosser box working out?
It's behind the door panel mounted on the inner door skin. Start with the drivers door since that's the master. Embosser enclosure is perfect! Thanks again! Did I send you the pic of 2 of my guys sitting in it (the one dude is 6'3")?
Great, thanks! More inf - check this: The other issue is this: When they replace my CD player two summers ago, they messed up the electronics in the car. So that whenever I pull up to a place, say my house and get out and close the door (say I don't want the door locked in this case) and just walk away about 3 minutes later the alarms starts going off. When I close the door it gives the blinking red "alarm armed warning" light. I have to manually use the fob to beep beep unlock the car in order to leave it unlocked. So it really messes with people when say I leave the car at the delearship for an oil change and forget to tell them about it because they move the car, get out, and three minutes later it starts barking at them. It's something they have said would take "all day" to figure out and I haven't yet found that day to live w/o my car.
