Tried searching about this, turned up nothing. Gf broke her keyfob today, i called the stealership and they said it was $125 for the keyfob and then another $60 to program it. Does anyone know if there is a cheaper way to get a replacement?
Yep, one didnt come with my 02 WRX. Bought one on ebay (for literally $10) and programmed it myself. What kind of car does she have? Programming might be the same across Subies but I couldn't tell you that. The programming, however, was kinda Konami-code-ish, but check here for more on programming: http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21788 Took me a couple tries but I got it.
im sorry, completely forgot to say that it was an 08 2.5i i was told by the lady in the service department that the keyfobs have an immobilizer chip in them, could it possibly be that she thought i was asking for the KEY and not the KEYFOB?
I would think the key has the immobilizer.. most new cars have a chip in the head of the key that needs programming.. yeah $60 for programming a remote... takes about 2 ins to do when you know the method (I have never done a subaru one but do Ford ones every other day)
also, this is her only one, so would there be a place locally that i could pick one up for less than $125
You'll probably have to go through the dealership. The old keyfobs were able to be programmed with the car, the new ones have to be programmed with a scantool so you'll need a Subaru tech to do it.
Ouch, yea I'm sure that fob is going to be a little more expensive. My GF has an 08 Mazda and everything is built in with the key, they told her if she loses it it was going to be like $250 for key + programming. Is the key + fob all-in-one? If so, yea I can imagine it's going to be expensive.
no, the key and fob are separate. that is why i cant really understand paying $60 to program it. if its the same thing as my 05, it seems pretty easy. I found this auction on ebay, says outback and tribeca, but i am assuming that it would work with an impreza too, anyone used these guys before? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
Maybe you could have one of the Morries guys check to see if the part numbers are the same across all models of Subarus...?
how much to sign up and how much discount? also, who on here is a morries guy that could check for me?
You're paying shop rate for time to program the car. They have to hook up a scan tool and program the computer to recognize the keyfob. Some dealerships may charge less than others, but there isn't really a way around this unless you own your own Subaru scantool. The 08 is not the same as the 05 when it comes to the fobs.
10 buks to join (12 buks if you paypal) and 20% off parts at Morries plus you get a WHOLE LOT more, check out this thread for joining. http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24934
so from what i understand, i have to go to the dealership to get it programed, but could i get a replacement not from them, and just take it to the dealership to have it programmed?
