I'm going to do the pads on my STi pretty soon and was just wondering if there's anything i should know before starting - or is it just like any other car? (i know my 240's have goofy rear calipers - have to twist the piston back in instead of just pushing. just curious if there is anything weird like that. i'm a subaru noob ).
Twisting the rear piston in is pretty much a standard affair on almost any car in the rears (e-brake related). Its very straight forward on these cars.
Rear calipers on single piston subaru's don't require any twisting. I use a large channel-lock pliers to compress the piston, but others use C-clamps. I can't imagine the 2 pots on the STi being much different. My RB 4-pots in front don't need any twisting. Just be carefull with the powdercoating...
I used a c clamp to compress my pistons when changing my pads, the dirty part is i would compress one and the other would pop up so i had to wedge a piece of wood under there to get em both at once.
