My carrier bearing is wearing out and is giving a lot of drivetrain vibration at speed over 60mph. Took it into a few shop with no luck with diagnostics. A buddy said its most likely a carrier bearing wearing out. Checked it and it has quite a bit of play. Ordered a DSS one piece aluminum driveshaft and looking for tips and input on install before it arrives. DSS say its fairly simple with sum minor persuasion to the driveshaft tunnel for fitment. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

How much was it if you don't mind me asking?

About $500 shipped. Beats paying 700 from the stealership for the stock 2 piece. And having the same issue happen again. Heard good reviews.

I've helped uninstall/install driveshafts while doing transmission removals for clutch jobs and it is fairly easy. I know you normally need to mark the four bolts on the end brackets and line them up in the same orientation was when it was removed. Since you're installing a new driveshaft, there might be markings for the orientation on the new one. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can chime in!

I just replaced mine last night (due to a worn out center donut and a partially broken u-joint). I put in a used OEM driveshaft. It's a pretty simple process if all goes well.
    • Remove midpipe from exhaust
    • Remove the cover on the rear of the driveshaft (6 bolts) - I broke 2 of these bolts and had to cut them off
    • Remove 4 small bolts holding rear of driveshaft to rear diff (use e-brake to hold in place, release e-brake and rotate rear tire to turn the flange)
    • Remove 2 bolts holding center bearing in place
    • Slide driveshaft out of the back of the transmission
    • Put a rubber glove over the back of the tranny just in case any fluid comes out
To put it back on it's all just the reverse of removal. It sounds like you need to beat on the underbody of the car to make the 1 piece shaft fit. Doesn't sound ideal, but should be fine if you take your time and have a good size hammer.

Undercoating should help not destroy the underside and prevent rust issues

Bring a hammer. You'll need to pound out the tunnel a little bit. If I remember correctly, it's a weld joint that needs to be hammered away from the shaft. It should be pretty evident when you're under there.

Driveshaft installed and still having intermittent brake shutter. Getting annoyed with the upgrades that should've corrected these problems. Anyone have any other suggestions??? Or live near Lakeville that can take a test drive?

Your initial description said you were getting driveline vibrations. Why don't you post up all the details on your issues so the forum can try to help diagnose?

Include details on what car, your symptoms, and what you've done so far to attempt resolution.

I had to hammer mine a lot to get my DSS not to rub.
