anyone have any suggestions? I found these on ebay but they look too good to be true. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/91-9...QsspagenameZWD1VQQtrksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247 piddster where you at also, I am wondering if there are any good piston companies other than wiseco that would have a solid piston for my 22t thanks guys, Tim
Im sorry if i dont want to spend over 100 per piston sir. edit: im leaving my pistons stock, just replacing rings, If I can get a good deal on some oems or something, I will do that, but the cyls still have crosshatching so i feel that spending 600 on pistons dosent make sense for the amount of power I will be making.
wait....are we talking about pistons or bearings?! Engnbldr uses "Rock" Brand bearings on their Toyota Rebuilds. they're extremely high quality, and well priced. http://rockprod.com/ you might be able to find a supplier that carries them for subarus. also, you can get some Beck/Arnley ones from Rockauto.com for comparable price to those ebay ones. I use a lot of Beck/Arnley parts, clutch, water pump, and just ordered an axle. always been extremely impressed with them.
This time around I didn't go cheap on the rod bearings. I did not like how the Clevite's looked when I tore it down so I spent the money on the Cobb bearings this time around. Cosworth and ACL race bearings I've read are good seem to be the same thing. Basically a nice set of rod bearings will run about 100 bux. The main bearings on the other hand, don't see nearly the stress that the rod bearings do. Thats just how the design of the boxer engine works. Anyways, I used Clevite mains last time and they looked great when I tore it down. This time I used Federal Mogul. I paid about $40 for the mains. Both of them said "made in japan" on the package. If you are going to re-ring it, you should still get a light hone. Just because there is cross-hatching doesn't mean its actually rough enough for a new set of rings to seat properly.
I just looked at your link to ebay. I'd get those ACL's. They're good, tri-metal IIRC and identical to the cosworths, from what I've read and heard. One doesn't need to spend $250 to have good rod bearings, which is what the retail is on EJ22T rod bearings from Subaru. When I was looking for pistons, the only company that had off-the-shelf pistons for the EJ22T is Wiseco. From anyone else they would have had to be a custom set, at about $150 per piston.
