So three guys go to pay for there meal the bill comes to $30, each one of them pays with a $10. The manager then realizes that the waiter charged too much so he orders him to give the gentlemen back $5. The waiter on the way to give the money back realizes he can't split the $5 three ways, so he pockets $2 and gives the guys $1 each. Now the gentlemen have paid $9 each and the waiter pocketed $2, where did the other dollar go?
30 - 5 = 25 25 + 3 = 28 28 / 3 = 9.33 28 + 2 = 30 They didnt' pay 9 dollars, you ****ed up the math, idiot. That's the answer.
$30 all together $10 each = $30 Paid $5 too much, Waiter keeps $2 and gives each $1 Total bill is $25 now, plus $2 and plus $1 each = $30
what? where did the 2 come from?? I thought you said there were 3 guys. 5-2=3 DER he pocketed 2 and that is the only place I see 2,. where did you get this question?!
You're a *******. Bill was 30, but manager said give them back 5 bucks because you overcharged...right? If you gave me 30, and I give you back 5.... 30 - 5 = 25 dollars is what was paid. OK, you can't split 5 three ways...fine, so you pocket two and give the men a dollar each.... 25 + 2 = 27 (oops, screwed that up) 25 dollars paid, plus the 2 you pocketed = 27, they got 3 dollars back. 27 + 3 = 30. They have paid 25 dollars now, and you pocketed 2. Therefore, the men did pay 9 dollars a piece. And you would get ****ing fired for A) pocketing money, and B) not using a goddamned calculator when you were doing the totals.
If a helicopter was put on top of a record player (Shrunk down by Steven Hawking), and the record player started spinning 45RPM Electric Underground, how many wiki-wiki-wiki's will it take to get to the center of a Tootsie-Pop?
Ok this is how I see it I am also not saying anyone is wrong just putting up something to think about ... each guy first pays $10 then gets $1 back now that is $9 now the total paid by each guy is $27 (9x3=27) ... the waiter pockets $2 from the guys who have now paid $27 (27+2=29) ... where did the extra dollar go?
I messed up in the previous equation, but you are still an idiot. 30 - 5 = 25 total required to be paid for bill You pocketed 2 bucks 25 + 2 = 27...yes, the men did pay 9 bucks a piece...but that is because you gave them 3 dollars back out of the 5 you were supposed to give back.
Each of the 3 friends did indeed pay $9, not $10, and as far as the friends are concerned, they paid $27 for the bill. But we know that the clerk will tell us that they were charged only $25 and when you add the $3 returned with the $2 kept by the bellhop, you come up with $30.
HE POCKETED 2 ****ING DOLLARS FROM THE 5 DOLLARS HE WAS SUPPOSED TO GIVE BACK!!! 5 dollars to give back, you keep 2, that means you are giving them 3 dollars back. 25 + the 2 you kept = 27 dollars paid because they gave 25 to the restaurant and 2 for your ****ing pocket. The three dollars you gave back to them makes 30 total dollars. You are wrong. The way you see it is wrong. Someone lock this thread now before it gets dumber.
If you mix up the addition and subtraction like OCB did you get it wrong. But if you do it jasons way 25+3=28 Plus the waiters 2 = BAM 30! GTFO CHET
is this one of those IQ questions from freeiqtest.com ? ? ? ? I got 130 on my IQ test. This makes me a genius. I R A GENIUS!! :hsugh:
OK here it is in pictures because I think all the numbers and words might confuse some of you.... Imagine each X to be a dollar.... XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX 30 X's...now, 5 had to be returned to the customer right? XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX THE RED X'S ARE THE ONES YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO GIVE BACK TO THE MEN... But you kept 2 dollars of it, let's paint those green... XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX WE STILL HAVE 30 total dollars here, Chet. now, GTFO.
No someone else was asked this at work I figured I would see what others said. Yes Sir MIX alot it does make sense now, the other way is how I first heard it. Oh it was told by the President of Erik's - Dave-O
the wallofmathovisions is not here to save you all from the dastardly algebraic equation that is OCB. sorry, I can't make fun of people. it's not in my nature.
Here you go, here's another fun question. You have 9 balls. One of these balls weighs more than the other 8 but not by an amount that you can feel in your hands. You have a precision balance scale. But you can only use it 2 times. How do you determine which ball is the one that weighs more than the others?
Also, Chet: In the world of algebra, you can perform addition and subtraction without specific order. You can perform multiplication and division without specific order. However, multiplication and division (or "times" and "divide" to some, and if you're just beginning to understand at this point I suggest you stop reading) cannot be performed out of specific order with addition and subtraction. Behold: (1+2) x 3 is different from 1 + (2X3). Simply put, you're trying to introduce times into your add where there was none previously. Hence: 10 + 10 + 10 = 30 30 - 5 = 25 25 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 28 Waiter pockets 2 for his little self and files for unemployment.
It messed with your head because they told you what the 3 ghey dudes spent on dinner or whatever. Then you just assumed (Cause your Chet) that the math they had done what correct.
There was never an extra dollar, Chet. What you have seen, you must forget. Immediately. If you do not forget, the g-men will make SURE you do forget. You don't want your little girlfriend to lose a finger, do you? There is no such thing as 2.
Again, you can't feel the difference in your hands. The only way to determine the differences is using the precision balance. If you don't know how a balance works it is very simple. You put something on one side and something on the other...if they weigh the same, the balance balances out, if one side is heavier, that side will go down while the other goes up.
If I tell you the answer, what fun would that be? BTW, I was tested at age 17, my IQ at the time was 145.
