Just had my 17'' Rota SDR's and Lexie's 18'' ProDrives powdercoated through 3van at Chimera and they turned out amazing! Lexie's are a gloss black finish and mine are a matte black finish. I'll post pics of the Prodrives when she gets home in a few here. Thank you B-rad for mounting and balancing the wheels! Scuffed the lip on the SDR's and painted with some WRB in a spray can from Welle auto supply for the time attack look. Great prices and great results! Thanks again Evan!:wavey: .......on to some pics!
how much to powdercoat a set and what sort of prep work is needed to be done to the wheel beforehand?
Hahaha! Thanks for the comments! Lexie's Prodrives look even better!:yumyum: As far as price, you should contact Chimera via PM. It usually depends on how many people get them done as group buys tend to vary in price. Nothing has to be done in preperation short of having the wheels removed. Then they take them, sandblast down to bare metal, then powdercoat with your choice of gloss finish(low-gloss to high-gloss). We both wanted black so that kept the cost down also! As far as the paint goes...Welle Auto Supply off of Central and 50th? in Columbia Heights/Hilltop across from the Flameburger can provide you with OEM color matched paint in a spray can for around $22/can. All you need is your MY, paint code, and 15 minutes for them to mix it.
Hahaha...the paint on the SDR's that i got from you has seen better days fo sho! They have been rallyxing! The second set that i picked up from Dan ,aka Boomer, were also used for RallyX...not that you'd know it anymore. They are the ones that i had resprayed in the pics. I am considering getting the set that i traded with you powdercoated also because it's soooo reasonable. I didn't know that you live in the Heights!?
LMK if you get more powdercoating done soon, I plan on making your old wheels black at some point before winter. Maybe GB
^That! The reason that i got a really good deal was because i had them do both sets in black. Bill, If you want to do a group buy, get ahold of Evan or Josh. If you can't find 2 or 3 more people that want bronze, you may just have to pony up a few more $$$. Regardless, the rims turned out perfect and i fully intend on going back for MOAR!!:yumyum:
