Suspension isn't really going to matter without knowing the rim width and tire size. We need to know the rim width, and what size tires you plan on running. Keep in mind, the only wheels you'll be able to run a 225 width tire and not have to modify anything will be STI wheels (or 06+ 17in wheels IIRC) with an offset around +53 to +55. Wagons are limited as to what they can run tirewise because they don't have the flared fenders the sedans do. If you want to run those wheels you're almost certainly going to have to roll your fenders.
this is slightly incorrect from my experience. I ran a 225/40 18 with stock struts and swift springs on my wagon with 45 offset wheels. thats just my experience tho
I put my 40mm offset 17X7 wheels on my wagon and they were pretty flush (didn't like the look). They worked fine with stock suspension but if you went lower you'd definitely be hitting the fenders.
You're missing one part of the puzzle. What width were the rims? All of those numbers make a difference.
