    FS: Roborovski Dwarf Hamster

Here is a funny story you'll enjoy. So my wife and I bought a pair of Roborovski Dwarf Hamsters from Petsmart, listed as all FEMALES. So my boys named them Flash and Jr Bear. These hampsters are really fast, fun to watch and super easy to take care of. Anyway we found out last week these guys had 6 babies, we just checked them this morning and they are starting to have hair now.

I don't know if there is anyone who would be interested in them, but I will not sell them to you if you're going to use them as pet food for a predator. LOL So being the doctor that I am I thought I would check them to see how many males and females we have and I am sad to say I was not able to tell them appart.

So below you'll see some information regarding these lovely pets, I'll post the actual pictures when I get home.

Petsmart sells these guys for $15 bucks, I am asking $7 to help my boys get more supplies for our pets at home.

    Thanks,

    Cheech

    Scientific Name: Phodopus Roborovski
Country of Origin: Central Asia, Northern Russia, Mongolia, and Northern China
    Lifespan: About 3 to 3 1/2 years
Size and Weight: 4 to 5cm and 20g to 25g
    Other Important Facts:

The Roboroski hamster is becoming increasingly more available in pet stores. It is fast and very lively, but rarely nip. This hamster is not normally recommended to the first time hamster owner, as they can be tricky to handle. Roboroski hamsters are very sociable and should be bought in pairs of the same sex although many pet stores cannot sex these hamsters confidently. Roboroski hamsters should never be housed in small cages despite their small size and require at least a 24" X 12" glass tank or plastic cage. They should never be housed in barred cages, because they will squeeze through the bars or may get half stuck.

Thanks Dynapar. We have been trying to come up with a design like a maze type habitate for these guys to keep things interesting and see how quickly they figure things out. Should be alot of fun.

Good grief, those things are cute!

So, how are you going to keep them from breeding again?

Here is a picture from today, they are starting to run and are able to get around very easily, some are starting to eat food as well. They are about an inch long, eyes are still closed.

Wow, are their heads supposed to be that disproportionately big compared to their bodies ?

Hi Stoooo-well I'm no expert but from reading our hamster book, I believe they are about +two weeks old, they look just like the pictures in the book. Eventually I would hope they will have a full body of hair.

At this time I don't know how we are going to prevent them from having more litters, may have to separate them. They guys are pretty smart, they know when its time to go play, all we have to do is stick a green cup inside their tank and they hope in and we put them in a large box and they run around for hours. Of course there are lots to do in the box. And its back into the green cup when its time to go back home. These criters don't make much sound either. Usually the only sounds you'll hear is the wheel spinning around, but if you have a good squeel free wheel, you'll hear nothing.
