    Hey Guys,

Just looking for any experience from drivers in the Rochester area, if you have window tint darker than the 50% legal limit, are you ever bothered by law enforcement for it?

Some years (7 or 8 maybe) ago I had 35% tint and never had issues in Rochester, however at college in Mankato I was stopped a couple of times by the Blue Earth County fuzz and eventually had to get the tint removed from that car.

Just wondering what its like more recently in Roch before I drop some cash on tint, I dont want to end up having to take it off someday anyway. (I would go again with 35%, so not stupid dark, but still noticeably darker than 50%)

    Cheers.

In my old 2.5rs I had 35 on the rear window and the 2 rear quarter windows. Was ticketed 3 times and 1 warning in 5 years. All by State patrol. Never once got hassled by local police, City cops seem to have better things to do especially if you are driving respectfully. My current Forester has 35% all the way around and i have NEVER been stopped or hassled by anyone state or local. Running a WRX or STI I would personally stick with 50% just to save the potential headache and fines, but that is just me. Definitely don't go darker then 35%. You could always talk to your optometrist too and see if they can give you a "prescription" that says you are light sensitive and then you can legally have dark tint, but it still won't stop you from getting periodically stopped.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I may look into the Rx, not sure I think 50% is worth the money rather just use it as is.

For your car, darker than 50% will get you ticketed. Stick to 50% (and make sure that's the gross tint, not what you're adding on), or get a prescription.
Keep in mind that having a prescription in the car won't stop you from getting ticketed. I believe you need a judge's written exemption, and even that might not stop you from being ticketed. It certainly won't stop you from being stopped.

Nearly all of my tint tickets are from driving through Rochester on my way to Iowa. Always the State Patrol FTL.

All 3 of my window tint tickets were in Rochester from 2007-2008. Same police officer wrote two of them. Black civic with 35% all around. Was only stopped for the window tint.

When I had 35% tint one state trooper gave me a ticket between La Crosse and Rochester at 11pm on a Sunday. Several times when I worked a late shift ending at 1-2AM I was pulled over by local cops either checking tint or if I had been drinking. Only received warnings then.

You may already know this, but....

Laws are different for sedans vs Wagons/SUVs, so you can easily get away with darker tint on a Forester.

For those interested, the windshield and front two windows have to be 50%, but all the other windows can be whatever tint you'd like for an SUV. Most cops just let any tint slide on the front of an SUV too.

I believe Midwest Custom Concepts used to be a go-to in the day. I think they did my mom years back and it looked good.

Not sure if the fact they "did your mom years back" or the fact you say it "looked Good" is more concerning.....

A friend of mine was pulled over today in roch by a trooper and was issued a warning for 35% tint. I have 35% on my subi and have never been hassled in the last 4 years. I had a Saturn before that with 35 though and with that I got 6 warnings before finally being ticked. So really it's hit or miss.

Dafuq. Lino cops be hassling me all the time for my tint. Which is not even dark and is on rear windows only. I even had one park outside my house then follow me 7 miles before pulling me over for tint. (earlier that week she accused me of t-boning my neighbors ****ty jetta)

I have had no problem with my tint, but I also don't draw attention to myself either. I wander if that is more the problem many of you are having. Ie.. Priors, speed, other sketchy things?

Nope. I got so annoyed by it that i asked the trooper if it was the spoiler, color, hood scoop...etc. I usually have my cruise set and have never been speeding when they pulled me over for tint. He also did the, "do you know why i pulled you over today?" My response was, "quota?" as it was the end of the month. He lol'd.

His response was "your illegal tint is what got my attention." Lolz

It will have much less of that noise once we find time to do some swappin! Although, the obnoxiously loud exhaust isn't going anywheres yet.
