On my way back from WI. Going 75mph and I hear. BOOM! I thought I blew a tire, but no it was just my roof spoiler getting ripped off. This was on when I bought the car and I HATED it, but this is not how I wanted it removed. Apperantly the previous owner bolted ONE side and DOUBLE STICK TAPED!!!!! the other side. Well double stick tape is strong, but not that strong. I have owned the car (daily driver) since Sept of last year. pics...
Ouch! Sorry to hear. That really blows. This is the reason why I check under the clock pod and behind the stereo for wiring and under the car and in the engine bay for aftermarket bolts when helping friends shop for these cars. Finding half-assed installs and reinstall of stock parts typically give you an idea about the kind of workmanship that the previous owner put into a car. I would be paranoid about that STi wing now :eek3::ugh:
yes I couldnt agree more!! I like the one bolt on one side and the doubled sided tape on the other. He must be a duct tape pro too!! Now I would start checking everything else that he installed. Like see how many zip ties and welding wire are holding things together.
It is/was bolted with 2 bolts on the one side. One bolt must have blown when the tape/glue gave way on the other side. The other bolt held (and dented the pillar panel). I wish it would have totally flown off completely. And yes, it is destroyed and not fixable at all. The pictures were taken when it was still attached to the car.
One truck was directly behind me. He got quite the show. Other than that it was pretty clear. Just imagine the force going on that spoiler at 75/80mph!
