I want to get my car tuned and i heard that RS motors does tuning are they any good with subarus????????? i have an 06 STI running stage 1 and still dabating about a downpipe but i don't wanna kill the warrenty (dritin240) help????
What kinda of em do you have?? I think the only place with a dyno locally that can tune ap's is db performance. I can do some road tuning for the ap's and the utec's. Honestly, I would go with atleast a downpipe or a full turbo back before you invest the money to get it dialed in. Russ
I'm pretty sure Ron at RS can do Utec. It's been awhile since I asked him, but I think that's what he told me.
they can tune without a utec or ap? that seems like an odd thing to say. maybe they are just doing reflashes, ala ecuteck/ecu explorer.
Yup. Ron's been working with the OpenECU stuff since they released it for the Mitsubishi Evo (he owns one). i don't know how much experience he has with the subaru end of it, or even if he has the cable, as i think the Mitsu/Subaru openport cables are diffrent enough to be incompatible with eachother.
Cool. if he doesn't, let me know. i've got an openport V1.2 for subaru and all the tuning software loaded on my laptop. i'd be happy to swing by with it and learn a few things about it in the process.
I have AP stage 1 but the only thing is is that the car doesn't even have 3,ooo miles on it yet so that warrenty goes down the drain with a DP
Again, without even being stg2, i would save your money and spend it on other mods. The ap's come preset at around 10.5:1 afr and mild timing, so you will be more than safe. The money that it will cost to get dyno tuned vs the increase in hp isn't worth it. AT BEST you might pick up 5-10 whp with a good tune. My .02 Russ
Is it worth not getting the ap and just getting a tune when you are ready? I am thinking of doing tbe, up pipe, fmic(I know unnessisary but I want it), and short ram. I will probably do that in the near future. The only other mod I plan on doing after that is the 18G. But thats probably two to two and a half years down the road.
Would buying a FMIC be pointless with a stock turbo and just running stage 2? when would be best time to get a FMIC?
You should buy parts when there is a need to have them. FMIC's arent neccesary unless you're running something with significantly higher intake temps than what you have now or can't put a TMIC on the car. You can get some very large HP out of a WRX or STi with a TMIC, the FMIC is not neccesarily the only thing you can do. You're going to get a bigger pressure drop over any FMIC for a subaru, the amount of piping is pretty outrageous compared to a transverse inline 4. And it just makes the car look more obvious. Take it from a big ol' FMIC owner, i'd rather have something less conspicuous and less easy to damage.
^^^Yes it would. You don't need the FMIC unless you have upgraded your turbo. It's not worth the money yet, for what you have done.
The stock ic is VERY efficient for the amount of air that the stock turbo flows. I have been monitoring air intake temps since I have had my car (1 probe pre-ic and 1 probe post ic). You want to match the flow of the ic to the flow of the turbo. ok, the ap will unlock some hp for ya, but there is no use in getting it tuned while you are still on stg1. There isn't going to be big gains. once you start doing exhaust upgrades and free up the flow, then you can look into a custom tune. Russ
I am doing th fmic for the bling factor. I like the look of it and I plan on going with a bigger turbo down the road anyways.
