Hello, everyone. A friend of mine named Trevor Lewis (who is apparently a high priest of glass fiber work) has brought his RS200 replicar over from the UK to Cyprus. He had quite the journey, driving down through France, and into Monaco. From there, he crossed the border into Italy, and went over the famous Col de Torini as featured in the Monte Carlo Rally. As an added bonus, a couple of days delay waiting for the ship from Italy to Cyprus gave him time to visit Pompeii. And today, I talked him into meeting me out at Aphrodite's Rock so we could get a few pictures of it with my Type-RA. The RS200 body shell is hand made and mounted on to the chassis of a Classic Subaru Impreza. It has Impreza running gear, and is putting out around 350bhp. It really does look the part, but it has the advantage of rear seats and significantly lower running costs than the real thing. Having seen the body shell up close and personal, the finish of it is absolutely immaculate. And I am reliably informed that the wheels are ones actually used by Juha Kankkunen in his last rally before his retirement. They *have* had a little work done to make them fit, but they really finish it off quite nicely. Nice!! Engine bay looks very subaru (except the hood, of course....). Love the AWIC too. Thanks for sharing!
Very cool! I have a friend in Ohio who is building a replica RS200. The bodywork kit (available from a company in the UK) alone is nearly $22k so even replicas of these cars are very expensive! http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2763 I wonder how the performance of the Subaru drivetrain compares to the original's mid engine Cosworth BD powered layout.
Oh, and I believe the wheels are Raceline RL7s. They are no longer produced and they are prone to cracking but there are a couple places in Europe that can repair/restore them. They do look fantastic on the car!
Wow, that's some dedication and skill. That rear panel looks like it took some time! Thanks for sharing? so what's the story with your car? You're getting rid of it?
Yes, Sheen, mine's up for sale. But, if it doesn't sell by November (when the insurance runs out), I'll just ship it to the UK and keep it
