I was looking for a different problem and found this bigger one. This is the front control arm and front frame rail. I know the control arm can be fixed, but is the frame able to be easy enough?

Front sub frame can and should be replaced. Have seen a lot of them being replaced in conjunction with the control arm recall.

I just went to the dealer in maple wood. Funny that they even had the parts in stock. Now I am in search for experienced parts.

What year and model? There is a recall and subaru should replace at no charge

Its an 02wrx. It was brought in for that recall. At that time it was said to pass the test. They did apply the rust proofing stuff. So the dealer said I have to speak to the corporate office to see if it will now fall under the recall.

Yes and Subaru said that due to it passing the recall test there is nothing else they can do. Other than repair it at my cost at a Subaru dealer of my choice,at my expense. The one guy I talked haven seen pictures said that he wouldn't feel safe driving it till fixed.

So LCA were ordered now looking at the sub frame options.

Hmm that's sucky. How long ago was the recall service done? Kinda fishy to me that it would have progressed so much in what, a year or two? I'm no tech but it seems to me that if they did the test correctly, and did even a little bit of extra poking around with a screwdriver, they could have seen this coming?

The test was done 9/28/11. So now I am out of pocket for the repair. I asked to prorate, compromise on parts anything. And was giggled at and was told it is a 2002. Wow.

Good to know... I can see their point I guess, that three years on is enough time that they would probably see it as normal progression.

I am by no means a expert on rust, but I would like to think that looking at the size of the damaged sections. That this rust has been going on for a little while. And with it being a known problem that SoA would not be quick to brush the under the rug. Why no follow up to see progression of the rust. Now for the guys that have an 07 in 7 years are you Sol because your car based a test when you're car was 3+- years old? My point is my car is well taken for not a rusted POS. This is an existing problem that Subaru could be a lill bit more helpful on. I am not saying free. Because I am looking at this as a step to upgrade anyway. Like the saying says if it ain't broke don't fix it... Well mine is broke so I say upgrade. Parts to come soon.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you...If you have a good service history at a dealer, it might be worth a try to see if you qualify for a one time good will repair.
