So first of all this story takes place over a two month or so span ... keep that in mind.

A family friend of ours (Jamie) has and always will have a Westie named "Buddy" well as the story goes, our friends dog Buddy ate a full carmel apple. After two days or so he begun to have serious complications where Jamie's wife told Jamie to bring Buddy to the vet. Jamie replied with he will in the morning ... 15 minutes later Buddy had passed.

Jump ahead a month, Jamie and friend are out checking out how far the ice goes on the lake. They find where it starts to crack and turn back, next thing you know new Buddy is swimming in the lake. Jamie gets on his belly and crawls towards Buddy while his friend his holding his legs. Sadly Jamie also falls in the water also but gets out immediately. With very cold temps and being soaked in water Jamie takes off his bibs and throws then in Buddy's direction, Buddy crawls up the bibs and runs to Jamie. Jamie stated that he looked like he always did when he wanted to play, next thing you know Buddy runs back toward the open water this time with Jamie's other dog in chase. As time goes on Buddy soon stops swimming, so Jamie throws a rope towards his other dog which grabs it and returns to safety.

Days later Jamie goes to retrieve his bibs and finds Buddy frozen in the ice next to them, left with the decision to chip him out or leave his he chooses to leave Buddy ... not wanting to bury or dispose of him I suppose.

Which brings us to last Saturday, Jamie came down to the cites to buy another Westie named Buddy.

That is a very sad story but he definately has to be more careful with his dogs. Accidents happen but you need to treat a pet like a baby. They need supervision and should never be trusted in a potentially dangerous situation by themselves.

very sad :( My golden retriever Levi was trying to get a muskrat about 2 years ago when the lake was partially frozen and the ice broke. My mother in law heard him yelping and called me in a panic. I ran over there and it wasn't too far off the end of the dock so I jumped out as far as I could but didn't get far before I realized what a bad idea that was and turned back. Luckily one of the duckhunters left a canoe by one of the cabins so I drug it out there and was able to pull Levi out. He did it a 2nd time a few days late but was able to claw his way out. We now do our best to keep the dogs in the house until the lake freezes good enough for us to walk on and I keep a small raft ready for emergencies.

that guy probably needs to learn how to take care of his dogs... i hope he learns how to take care of a dog before he has kids. no offence to him but thats really sad. i love dogs and hate when people dont understand how to take care of them.

Wonder if he would let his dog run through traffic on 394 once, then let him do it again?

    Stupid and sad.

He has twins boys and a daughter. As far as that goes he is a wonderful father.

I think you guys are putting all the blame on him for no reason. The first dog was no where near his fault. I mean you can't watch a dog 24/7 he got into a caramel apple, who honestly thinks that would in turn kill a dog? As for the second dog, how do you for see a dog running into open water. The dog was only a couple of months old.

I didn't tell you the story to criticizes my family friend, I thought it was a sad story about someone who loves his dogs, where sadly because of freak accidents he lost two in untimely fashion.

it just really bugs me that someone would leave their dead dog outside... you told the story as if he kinda just gave up on the dog in the water cuz it sounds like he was letting the dogs play in the cold water. its ****ty that he lost 2 dogs that he loves but i honestly only feel bad for the dog in the ice...

i would have chipped him out, sealed him in some kind of a container, and buried him properly in the springtime. One of my Poms hopped the fence last fall and got on the pond in the back yard, he fell through right next to shore and was able to get himself out, and jumped back over the fence. he never did it again.

I think it was the hole situation Erik, I know that loosing a dog is tough I put mine down last summer and I haven't been the same since. But left in that situation I'm not sure what I would do, the emotional flood gates would be wide open and I guarantee that I would be in tears and besides myself as to what to do.

adopt a golden retriever that was shot?

Or bring her into the animal hospital/humane society?

Or pay 15k for medical bills?

I meant pay $15k to save a dog's life. To me, that's a bit rediculous.
