Does anyone know what it takes to get a salvaged car license plates and on the road in MN? I am going to need to go through this process soon.
I dont think its hard at all. Look at all the cars WMC is selling. It looks like he has no problem titling his POS.
I think you have to get it inspected by the DMV. exactly what you need to bring I am not sure of - inspection certificates if you did the work your self for example. The only thing i am sure of is that all the safety stuff - according to the year made - has to be installed and working. lights blinkers airbags, seatbelt etc..
Is the car a previous wreck, theft recovery, or trying to import something? When you title a repairable vehicle in the state of MN you will need to get it inspected. Upon inspection they will check to see if the car is safe. Then they will look everywhere for matching vin numbers through out the vehicle. A main thing is to keep all receipts of the parts used for repair. Then upon getting approved, you would be able to get the plates right away.
technically they're supposed to check that the car was safely repaired, and is safe to drive. BUT most of the time they just make sure that it wasn't fixed with stolen parts.
Sorry to say it guy, but no-matter how much you fix it, it will always be a neon! My cousin has fixed some repairables, I could ask him if you like.
Yep, and when I raced it, no n/a Subaru on the market could come close. Please check into what it takes, I need to get plates on this thing so I can drive it into the ground
srt4 swap srt4 swap srt4 swap srt4 swap srt4 swap. that would be so cool. i love old neons with the swaps done. the engines sound amazing and with that little body it would fly! surprise everyone on the road and track
Yeah that is the coolest stock engine sound for under $30k, and even puts to shame a lot of cars more than double its cost. However FWD=4TL as the traction thing will eventually bite you once you get to certain power levels. Bigger rubber up front only gets you so much and it looks kinda backwards IMO. I am curious how that Mopar engine is able to beat an N/A EJ25 from a stop though. Aside from a slightly tuned Celica GTS and some Porsches I've not found a lot that beats the low-end torque from that EJ. The vanilla 2.5RS makes a fantastic hill climb car because of it. How much does that little Neon shell weigh? Weight is just as important as engine power for a car's performance. I have to ask how much that car cost to put together versus buying a used one. Sometimes salvage titles aren't worth the trouble, especially if your insurance company doesn't want to have anything to do with it. Make a great track car though.
I bought the car new in '98, and because of my deployment schedule never really got to drive it.....ever. Just before I drove to Ca to put the car in storage for my tour in Japan, some douche in a SUV made an illegal left and I t-boned him at about 15mph. Because the car had no carpet, stereo, and was a Dodge Neon, the $3600 repair estemate exceeded the value of the car. So I bought it back for $316, and received a check for $3280. I paid my friend mike, who wrote the quoted posts $1500 to repair the car including parts. Buying it new, driving it for less than 70,000mi in 10 years, and dropping about $5k in aftermarket parts, plus countless man hours tuning the suspension, corner weighting, etc it was dumb to just junk the thing. Current mods are; '98 Neon R/T (early stripper model, lacks power options) ACR 22mm front hubs AF/X race ECU 8200 rev limit, no speed limit, more fuel, more advance MPP long tube header ModernPerf 65mm TB Ice-Man Cai (it actually does something) P&P head P&P intake mani MPP Koni's (same as slotted yellows) MPP "High Rate" linear rate springs MPP STS Sparco bolt on pedals, 3mm gap between gas and brake (rice but helps with toe/heel) UDP OBX Torsen LSD (new bolts and spring washers) Custom build Rota slipstreams (1 of 16 sets in existance) 15x8 +38 2618lbs wet ricer projector headlights, soon to have PIAA 4300k hid's (swapped from my legnum) SRT-4 steering wheel w/working airbag '03 R/T seats (larger bolsters) modded to fold forward for rear seat acess De-Ricified, wing and factory racing stripe delete The SRT-4 engine is PITA to swap into the 1g's as it needs wiring and a bunch of other crap. I have the mount to swap in a series 2 PT Cruiser 2.4 It is FAR from a drag racer, started life as my Auto-X toy, then turned into my canyon carver when I was tired of trying to fit into a class where my compitition was allowed a trunk kit to come close, and all I got was wider tires and a K&N drop in filter. you could always do the oldschool turbo dodge 4cyl's ive seen some old spirit rts run over 300whp. my cousin just rebuilt a shelby shadow. the 2.0turbo i think. almost sounds just like the srt4 but he has the sohc head.
the 2.2's are not an easy bolt into the PL chassis, plus the motor has 68k on the clock, I can't justify getting rid of it. We will see when the motor pops if I am going to junk it, make it a track whore, or dump in a 2.4 and call it a day First.... I need plates
i got my ass handed to me by an R/T neon when i was n/a, it took him about an 1/8 mile to catch up, but he blew by me when he did
