Well, I am leaving for Norway tommorow evening. This will be my first time in the scandanavian countries, and only my second time across the pond (last time was over 10 yrs ago).

So if anyone has any travel advice please post it up. Otherwise I will try and update this thread as much as I can while I am over seas. Hopefully I will see you all at firestone in ~3 weeks.

Will you be in Oslo? A good friend of mine just moved back to Norway not too long ago....

Anyway, tell Peter Solberg we say Hi

Have a safe trip and bring us back a troll.

    Also watch out for pickpocket's.

    Excellent -- enjoy yourself!

The girl and I spent two weeks in Sweden and Estonia last fall visiting her family. I understand most of what I'm about to say applies to Norway, but that understanding comes from a drunken Swede in the sauna, so get that grain of salt handy.

You'll find most business folks in midsized larger cities speak english reasonably well. If you take the time to say hi to them in their language, they're usually quite happy to speak english the rest of the time. If Norway is truly like Sweden, the greeting is "Hey Hey", or "Hey". Same for goodbye.

Alcohol is a much appreciated gift. The tax on alcohol is ungodly high all through that region, so any time you can pick up a fifth in a duty free area, knock yourself out.

Try the caviar in a tube with your breakfast. Seriously. Don't eat puffin. Yuck. Try reindeer and tell me what you think.

Rental cars are manual transmission, so enjoy yourself. Infart is entrance/ingress, Utfart is egress/exit. Saying 'utfart' never gets old.

They're not quite as anal on airport security as we are in the US, so notice what those in front of you in the security line are doing before you haul out all your equipment, strip to your skivvies, apply the lube, and take off your shoes.

Test our theory that anywhere you travel, you can find a pizza place and a Chinese place.

Travel safely, and bring back pics. Cheers!

where are you going and what are your plans? i've been through the country twice in my life and would go again in a heartbeat if the opportunity presented. i think the people are great if you're outside of the major metros, otherwise its the same bs as anywhere. be prepared to spend some money though, as norways is one of the wealthiest nations in the world right now per capita. when i was there last (2 summers ago i think) gas worked out to ~$7 per gallon. i'll see if i can find the name of a killer hotel i stayed at in north central norway. i still have distant relatives and have been to the site of the farmhouse that my great great grandfather built and lived in before his family immigrated to the states.

Well heres the plan. Iam leaving today with 3 friends from school. we have a layover in Iceland for about an hour, than its off to oslo. from here it gets kinda crazy. the first night will be spent on a night train to Bergen. That night will be spent on a night train to Sockholm. We then have 1.5 days in stockholm before we board a viking cruise ship destined to Helsinki. We have 1 night in Helsinki then we board a train to Joensuu (sp?). Where we will have 2 nights, w/ some pen pals. after that we hit a morning traint to turquo (sp?) where we will be catching another viking cruise back to Stockholm. after that it s atrain back to oslo for the last night in Scandinavia. My friends will be departing for home and I will be heading down to Paris to visit my aunt. I will be in france for alittle over a week. I am looking forward to seeing how bastille day is celebrated in Paris, it should be a riot.

I concur. Its kinda like beef, but better. I was in Norway a couple of summers ago. The weather was freakishly good in Lapland that week.

    lmao!

I seriously doubt that Mayhem ever stepped foot on any sort of Muppets stage, lol.

Nobody in their right mind would have a bunch of psycho satanic murders on a children's show. Don't get me wrong, the Muppets was pretty weird but not that weird (I hope). lol. :p

That kind of weirdness would have been reserved for the Fraggles. I mean, weren't they in caves harvesting and eating CRYSTALS?

I have finally made it back to a PC. so far I am having a blast. I have seen 30 subies over here. it ranges from Justys (new and old, but all 4wd) to STis (particularly V7s) the majority are outback wagons and FXT taxis, I also saw one wierd Subaru E12 minivan thing.... I saw one V7 STi with a GeNome exhuast in Bergen it sounded so sexy...

I tried a bit of whale in Oslo it is kinda wierd. It is prepared like beef, but tastes kinda fishy. Right now I am in Helsinki Finland. I am not finding this Finish keyboard very challenging. it is actually very similar except for a few keys. Today around town I saw alot of cool stuff. Let me tell you that the music scene over here holds alot more for the metal heads. There are posters up for Marduk concerts and tons of stuff. the Cd stores carry EVERYTHING. I have never seen so many different metal CDs in one place before.

Everything is going amazing. I hope that the rest of the trip goes just as well as the first part. There are some many funny little interesting things to talk about i cant explain them all. let me just tell you that there are tons of Utfart signs and sweden is filled with REA signs.

The idea of a NWS section has been brought up before and consistantly shot down. so until that changes no 18yr old topless girls for anyone.
