My engine was running a bit rough lately. I normally use non-oxygenated gasoline in my FXT and have been using it straight for the past few months. I decided to use up a bottle of SeaFoam I had sitting in my garage since the spring season. After driving for a bit, I've noticed a much smoother running engine when I accelerated and when I cruised. It works! I have read somewhere that the 10% ethanol in standard gas contains detergents to clean the fuel system. Are you fellas using a fuel system cleaner?

i normally will put in 1 can with a fill of gas per year. actaully i should do that soon, before winter. i do 1 full can to 1 full tank. then use some of the HEET stuff during the winter too.

i have heard of using it in the intake but i have never done it, what do you do just pour it into the throttle body?

in the end this stuff works great!

I guess you just take off a centrally-located vacuum line on the intake manifold and slowly pour it in with the engine idling. There's some thought that too much at once can hurt the o2 sensor though.

GREAT stuff in the gas tank! good stuff in the intake. potentially bad stuff in the oil

definately cleans out the injectors etc. in when it's with the gas

doesn't hurt in the intake, but I've not noticed a difference

thins out the oil, can eat away the gaskets, if you must use it in the oil, do it shortly before a change. Same for tranny fluid/gear oil.

Sea Foam is great stuff for old engines; it'll cut through varnish and carbon build-up like nobody's business.

If you've got an engine that's lost compression due to the rings getting glued into the pistons, take out the spark plugs, pour a bunch of Sea Foam into each cylinder, and turn it over a couple times. Replace the spark plugs and VROOM! Like a new engine!

I think Rislone and Restore are better engine oil treatments. I've had good luck with both.

I do a full fuel system cleaner free at work. =D from the gas tank to the lines to the injectors, even from the manifold into the cylinders. =D

Haha, that can looks like something I would use to clean my bathroom. The name Seafoam sounds like an bathroom cleaner.

So, before seafoam gets to be the new miracle fix, have you tried any other gas? I have been running non-oxy ethanol free gas all summer and don't have any problems. I know the gas I run is fresh. Sea foam is also a gas stabilizer, so if you have a tank (or tanks) of old bad gas, the sea foam will help that.

maybe it's time i seaformed my car too! i accidently pumped in some "more than average ethanol" gas into my car a few weeks ago, and it's been acting up lately. it WAS a 93 octane, but i believe it contains up to 15% ethanol. i usually get 23 mpg per tank, but after i plugged in that gas, i've been getting roughly 19 mpg. since then, i've only filled her up with non-oxy, but i'm still getting crappy mileage... any help?

The non-oxy gas I buy comes from a BP gas station right off the highway 35W in New Brighton. I asked them how often does it get filled, and they said that it gets filled everytime the standard fuel gets filled. Assuming that it's true, maybe the dilution of old gas and new gas (ratios could be 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, etc depending how much or how little non-oxy was purchased that week) could explain why the SeaFoam helped my motor run like new again. Don't get me wrong. My motor never pinged or knocked with the previous tanks, it just didn't run so smooth. I wish there was an easy way to tell the condition of fuel before purchasing. I will try to switch non-oxy brands to see if the results over a course of a few months will change during this winter season.

Since how long ago? Maybe your ECU still thinks this "Holiday" gas is being ran and hasn't yet got used to the non-oxy fuels... Or maybe you think your car's faster with the non-oxy and that causes you to step on the gas a little bit more around the city. An ECU reset and/or a bottle of Seafoam is in order. You can't impress the girls with a gas-guzzler, Theo. ;)

    SeaFoam is the ****.
works great as an injector cleaner through the gas tank.
i sugesst getting below a 1/8 of a tank and then adding it and running untill you don't feel comfortable anymore.

as for the intake, it helps on old cars with a lot of oil/crap in the intake runners, but won't help much on newer vehicles w/less than 75k mi.

i used this **** on my old saturn a couple of times, and it's just stunning at the throttle response increase. but that thing had 140k+ miles.

I've ran it in the gast tank and crank case (oil) Works great and I'm a beliver. Used it many times on several engines.

In the crank case I usually warm up the engine, pour in half a can, give it an itailan tune up, then change the oil.

Read the can for how much you put in.

haha! it wasn't holiday, but this was a few weeks ago. no, i haven't particularily stepped on the gas a little more. my car actually feels slower! i've reset my ECU a million times, and everytime i do that, i have to redo my s-afc settings... what a pain!

My old man swears by this stuff, he puts it in everything that runs on gas, our lawnmower, snow blower, etc. I give him a hard time about it but it really does seem to work.
