Does anybody else have trouble with finding threads using the "Search Entire Post" option in Advanced Search? The "Search Titles Only" seems to work, but when searching the whole post I get results that seem to have only been posted since the upgrade. Example: I search for "window tint" and only get 9 results. The word "tint" only yields 7 results. "Stage 2" only yields 9. "Oil" a measly 11. None of the search results have been posted prior to the VB update. Maybe I'm broken, but I dunno.
Think of it this way, at least it's working better than it was before the upgrade. You couldn't find anything at all before. ... :hsugh: haha I think it's likely a bug. On our other forum, it did the same thing even after we restored the old database (went from phpbb2 to 3 and it wouldn't search the old posts at all) -- this isn't something that we can fix without having a code monkey to rewrite the search code. What are you looking for? Would stickying some threads help ? I'm happy to see people using the search feature but we won't get anywhere as a community if we don't know what people want to have without searching for it
Thanks for the quick response. Glad it's not me. I'm new round here, so just trying to dig into a few things without starting another duplicate thread. No stickies requested...yet. Just will take me a little longer to find some things.
I figured out how to work it, but I highly doubt it works better than the last engine. Either way, I'll take the bugs!
I was joking, Mr L. The search here has always been rather useless. It used to search whole posts all the time, so you'd put in .. "change oil" and you'd get 10000000 results that had nothing to do with what you wanted. But yeah, there is a huge list of bugs on this new software and it keeps getting longer
Sorry all the bugs keep on making me mad. Also when I said "its' better than the old one" I was also being sarcastic so ...
I can try rebuilding the search index again, but with 600k posts, it will take close to the whole day. I was waiting till the next update comes out before I rebuild the index. Also, since our users didn't want to use the tags correctly and most posts end up going way off topic, our search engine will always suck. Garbage in = garbage out. Russ
I usually use google to search mnsubaru, nasioc, etc, using the "site:" feature. site:mnsubaru.com <what you're searching for> http://www.google.com/search?q=site:mnsubaru.com+"rally+rally+rally Maybe we could add a 'search with google' thingy on the site somewhere?
Yeah, that is what I do too, especially with Nasioc. Thats the only site with search that is more broken than this place.
Yes, much like this post that seems to never really get followed. Then people wonder why their questions aren't answered.
I rebuilt the search index this morning. Things will still be a bit messed up since everything is new, but it will straighten its self out as more people use the search. Russ
