2006 Second Annual Duluth Trip Oct. 14-15 ATTENTION This event will no longer be updated or talked about here...please refer to the sticky in the community events section of www.awdaddicts.com Well it looks like everyone is excited by looking at jason's gauging interest thread and alot of you are looking for dates, location, etc. I'm starting the organizing earlier this year because of the excitement. For those of you that dont know, last year was a blast. First off, the morning we were leaving i expected to see ~5 cars in firestone waiting to leave. Well when i got there we had already had 13 cars waiting to go. From that point on i knew it was going to be a blast. We headed off up 35 with the occasional highway pull on eachother(of course 40-70, not breaking the speed limit) while talking smack on our two radios. Met up at Chux house in Duluth for a warm welcoming then headed to the hotel to get settled in. We then hit up Skyline Drive for some fast windy roads that overlook lake superior(think: the pic of all our cars on skyline drive with superior in the background...ps-we had to climb on the roof of a observatory to get that shot). Ended that then started the massive party in our hotel bar. Also hit up a member's family restaurant for some grub that night. Woke up the next morning, took our time and started to head home. However on our way home 3rik knew of some off road trails, so we decided to head off course and hit up some amazing offroading trails and got some great pics flying through the mud. That was some run rallying for sure, i'll never forget it. And that was LAST year. I can only imagine what fun we are going to get ourselves into this year. Date: Oct. 14-15 Leave: Saturday the 14th, Firestone at 9:30. Can also meet you northerners at the first rest stop north of Forrest Lake. Lodging: Barkers Island Inn, Superior Wi. I will be able to get a discount again like last year through my work. I spoke with the front desk and we can get a group rate plus my discount. 2 Double bed room is 65.56+taxes. Its about the same price as last year but this place looks nicer. http://www.barkersislandinn.com/ Dinner: Old Chicago may be a viable option. For all you that havent went, this and Ice Race weekend are the two events you dont want to miss. I also wanted to mention that it is definitely cool if you want to bring your girl/wife along with. A few of us brought ours last year and i will be bringing mine again this year. It will be fun for all. Attending 1. Justin +1 guest 2. Dynapar 3. Aspitfire 4. 6mtizzle 5. RichWRX 6. I'm still a hand raiser...I'll let you know for sure. Barkers is much nicer than the place we went to last year. I've stayed there before.
i'm in for sure, as far as staying somewhere, my gf goes to school up there so i would just stay at her apartment, so i'm in but i won't need a room:biggrin:
If I do go I might need a ride up there because I am not sure if I could trust my car. Is anyone that is going willing to let me ride with them up there and other places?
Justin this sounds like a lot of fun, if only the date was not conflicting with a three day at BIR. Maybe next time. Have fun and bring back lots of pictures and videos. Thanks for putting this together!
OK.. I told my wife about this... so she is ok with it... add me and a friend to the list... and I will confirm... latest date for confirmation?!?!?
you know I'll be there/here Old Chicago is in canal park. as sweet as it would be to go there, there will be zero parking. even if we carpool, which would be lame. off hand, restaurants up the hill are: Olive Garden Perkins Old Country Buffet Applebees Grizzly's bar and grill (I think would be perfect!) Bridgemans Country Kitchen all pretty close, and with lots of parking! and as last year, I'd be more than happy to call ahead so we have some space. And we can certainly meet at my place again. maybe I'll have a garage by then too :naughty:
Canal park would be do-able. If needed we could shell out the cash for parking in the decc lot (or parking ramp) and walk over the little blue bridge. But yea, parking close to old chicago is out of the question. If we go up the hill theres American Grill up there too... which is basically like grandmas.
i'm game for anything that has good food and good parking. famous daves sounds good as long as parking is decent.
no OCB for me. OCB has gone downhill imo. we dont ave to eat on canal park, but uit would be cool to parade down there like we did last year.
Agreed, it'd be nice to drive down there.... but to park and eat there with this big of a crowd might be a pain in the arse. I also agree that OCB is out of the question, we don't need a scarf and barf... especially with people drinking alcohol afterwards.
canal park kinda sucked because we all got split up. If we want to go down there lets have a meet up point afterwards.
Can count me in. I drove to Duluth last year with my fam and really wanted the car empty to hit some turns faster. Ill see if I can get a friend of mine with a forester to go too.
if we did got to canal park and did a parking garage, bet we could get some sweet pics in there. i also bet eh parking garage people would love us! lol oohh yeah and supposedly the weekend before we go is the TCStangs duluth cruise.
correct! Nate will probably be coming both weekends (and staying with me) we'll definately cruise THROUGH canal park and out to park point like we did last year, but I don't think parking in canal park is a really good idea. yes, we could do it, but we'd all be split up randomly, or we'd have to pay....lame I vote for Grizzly's, sort of like famous daves, but with more bar, and a little more variety (i.e. not nearly as amazing BBQ, but they've got burgers and stuff too). and it's up the hill, so parking shouldn't be an issue. anyone is welcome to stay with me, just like last year. but, also like last year, I don't want any alcohol in my house (it's a personaly thing...don't ask), but I've got an extra bedroom with a double bed, queen-size hide-a-bed, and another uber-comfy couch. no to mention a bunch of floor space. and it's free! I may come over to the hotel for awhile, just to watch the shenanigans....
Yea grizzlies is ok, as long as we don't get the same waiter as last week. The MNSC Duluth guys met there, and it was by far the worst service EVER. No refills, didn't remember what ANYONE ordered, etc.... and it wasn't even that busy in the restaurant.
Chux mind if a crash at yoru place? do you have mario kart? and now whats this? StatsGSR might be buying a subie????? honda-->subie conversion in progress.
yea, blackwoods would work. but it's quite pricey, and I've had more than a few bad experiences there.... and yes, martin, you can crash at my place, and if nate's coming...we'll probably have mario kart
blackwoods was alright. it was kinda pricey for waht you get IMO. got something like an olive garden there? (mmmmm...... unlimited breadsticks!!!)
