Before I begin be aware this is not a "The dealer sucks" thread. I brought my 06 wrx into Morries Mtka. today to get a new key made. I got the key cut and they brought my car in to reprogram my existing key and my new key. The service manager told me that both keys had to be programed when you get a new key. When they were finished I paid and drove off. After driving about a block I saw that my security light was still flashing. I turned around and brought it back in right away. They took it in to the shop to take a look at it and when the service manager came back to the waiting room he told me the integrated unit was showing that the alarm was set all the time. It didn't matter if it actually was or not. He also told me they could not access the alarm portion of the integrated unit software. This is when he told me I would have to start paying for diognostic work. They gave me a loaner (08impreza) because they couldn't get to work on it tonight. My security light was not flashing before this. I told the service manager this and he then said he talked to the tech after the fact and the tech said the light was flashing when he drove it in. Unless it started doing this from the time I got out and the tech got in I know for a fact it was not flashing prior to this. My questions to you are.
    1. Should I be paying for the diognostic/repairs?
    2. Does it seem a little fishy that no one mentioned the light flashing before the keys were reprogrammed?
    3. Could the fact that I am running the Gabedude stage1 reflash have anything to do with this? I asked prior to the key programing and was told it would not be an issue.

06 wrx, stage 1 tune, SPT intake, cat back, hid's, fogs rewired to be usable with just parking lights, 47000miles.

The solution is in your manual. You must open your drivers door, and then hold the lock button, or open button for a few seconds...this should get rid of it. But, look in your manual for the proper procedure, as my explanation is just a guess. I would imagine that this is the case. If it doesn't work, then it's beyond me :) Hope this helps.

I did this, it did not help.

I'm not the one that programed the keys, I just got talked into looking at it just before I was about to leave. Per the service manual, the car thinks the alarm is set all the time, I'm not sure why.

Does it only take a minute to turn on, or is it always on?

It's always on, even when the car is running.

I know you probably already checked into it, but that normally happens when the BIU doesn't think that the proper key is in the ignition.
That shouldn't even allow it to start, but I know when most of the newer PDI's are performed, the light is constantly flashing till the accessory fuse is installed.

Yeah, the fuses were one of the things I checked over. I could not connect to the BIU with the select monitor.

Thanks guys. The service dept. called and said my car is good as new free of charge.
I was told the BIU froze durring the reprogram. Good job Morries in rectifying the situation. I appreciate good customer service. btw. The 08 impreza base model is not a fun car to drive, but I suppose I'm spoiled with the wrx.

Thanks, I was woried when I heard the words "electrical diognostics." I've been down that road before and it gets really spendy. Although bringing a loaner car to the ice races would have been interesting.

I talked to the tech this morning who fixed your car, it sounded like when the key reprogram was taking place the BIU only programed the key part way, and this is why I was unable to get into the BIU last night. Sorry for the troubles man.
