security system problem

my security system on my 2002 wrx stopped working one day for no reason. all it does is have a security light blink on my dash and nothing works. i have no idea what is wrong. does anyone know whats up with it?? oh, and at the same time my compass stopped working. i dont know if they are related problems or what but if anyone knows any thing it would help. thanks

 

you either have it on valet or silent mode...I'm assuming it is stock keyless and security correct?

 

do u hear a beep tho when u lock and unlock?

 

Valet mode on/off should be in your manual...I forgot the exact way of doing it...It involves a few steps to turn it on/off...*sigh* let me get my manual...Can't remember all the steps

 

ok..both of you try this...

To enter Valet mode, open the driver's door and keep the unlock button depressed for more than 2 sec. The security system status indicator light will continue to flash two times per sec. indicating that the system is on Valet mode.

To Exit Valet mode, open the drivers door and keep the unlock button pressed for more than 2 sec. the indicator will stop flashing

hey, sorry i didnt answer sooner but i was out of town at my sisters wedding, but yeah the valet mode was on so thanks for the advise. does any one know anything about the compass? it always says north... i unplugged it and everything but it doesnt work still.

 

I'm assuming your talking about your auto dimmer/compass...Does it say CAL in small letters by the N sign? CAL means calibrate....Drive your car in a circle until that CAL disappears...Just keep driving around in circles and no I'm not joking around...seriously. It will start to calibrate itself and say N, NE, E, SE, etc...

its true. That works wit just about any car wit a compass in it. U do look funny so do it somewhere where people cant see u if you are worried bout it

 

it doesnt say anything on it but north (N). i'll try it tonight since its dark out and see what happens.

 

If you haven't figured out the compass yet here is a summary from my instructions.
1.hold the right button on the mirror for 3 seconds. The word "zone" will appear briefly. Press the right button to cycle through possible zones most of Mn is zone 7 if you live in the arrowhead part of the state or wisconsin it looks like zone 8. Not touching the button will exit zone settings.

Calibration settings
1. Turn off all non essential electrical accessories.
2. drive to an open area away from large metal structures.
3. Press and hold left button for 3 seconds the word "cal" will appear.
4. Drive slowly in a circle until "cal" disappears(2-3 circles)
5. Good luck and don't run anybody over!

 

^good point Benny, forgot about the Zone thing...Just make sure u have the right zone...(7 for MN) as stated
