So I'm having a bit of a dilemma and I'm looking for some thoughts from outside my little ring of people...

I've been working on this car.

This as been my project car for the better part of 7 years, and being 26 this car has been with me since almost the start. It's a 94 Mazda Protege. I have a HX-35 on it now run by Megasquirt and all the work done to it as been done by me. This car about as much a part of me as my own hair.

BUT After getting married and buying a home I find that I have less time for the car now. Add to that...what is there to do with a car like that once it's "done". I can't afford any track days, front wheel drive sucks, and there's no real following for a car like that.

The question. I have a chance to get into a late 50's air cooled bug with my grandpa helping me along the way. And I love to do a ratted out bug! I love spending time digging around swap meet and stuff like that.

So stick with the old girl you know inside out, but isn't any good at anything or change it up for something lower, slower, but you can get in it and just cruse?

Oh and I only have room for one.

Take the bug and the family time, you won't regret it.

Once you've done what you can to her, its time for a change.

Set her free, if she returns kept it. If she doesn't, then it wasnt meant to be.

It sounds like you've enjoyed the car but I don't think it's something you would keep in the family for generations. At least that's the impression I'm getting from your words. So I'd say go with the bug.

For me, its quite hard to decide especially if you are very much attached with the old mazda. Think about it, what do you need and what do your family need and decide from there.

    Nope no kids yet.

And I have to say I'm starting to lean toward the air cooled a little. As long as the bug in question makes it out of the weeds in one piece... We'll see I just turned up the boost a bit on the mazda. Hopefully it won't sway me to much.:banghead:

Keep the mazda, its far more unique, and it is an f16 in comparison.
