ok i got a device that has a serial plug on it. 9 pin. i want to se this w/ my laptop, which like most newer ones does not have a serial port. so is there a way to convert the serial connector to USB? either through some fancy soldering work or some odd mess of converting dongles?
i have something like that too! it's like, a touch pad/mouse ! pretty weird, but it has a female end 9pin serial at the cord's end. wondering if i could stop on into comp usa and find some sort of connector... highly doubt it though.
Spendy but here is one at CrapUSA http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=284605&pfp=BROWSE
I use something similar with my laptop. It took a while to figure out the com ports and stuff to make it work, but now I don't have to hook up my docking station to use my laptop
I think I have a USB to serial adapter somewhere. It was supposed to be for my UPS but I haven't found a workstation/server board around that didn't have serial so I don't need it. I don't know if I've still got it though, I may have donated it to work for something.
Radioshack, i unfortunately work at one and they have a ton of adapters, this being one of them. before i started there i had no idea of all the electrical/computer crap they have.
USB -> serial adapters can be found at pretty much any computer store. Should be around $15. Check out www.microcenter.com (local) or www.tigerdirect.com
exactly what i was looking for. no too see if i can get a deal on it. WRXSPEED any idea how much these cost at radioshack?
