Should I get slicks or spend my money on something else. I am going to being doing some auto-x events and I think I will just destroy my tires that i have on now. So what should I do.

    Thanks
    Evan

I was just driving around today on tires so bald they are slicks... do you plan on driving in the rain? It was kinda scary above 65 MPH out there today! :p

R compounds will wear out faster than your street tires and will end up costing you more per season. Most autoxers recommend you wait until you've reached the limits of your current setup before you jump into sticky tires.

Nope, just trying to keep up with me! }:) hehehe

Seriously, however, I would put your effort elsewhere until you feel you have reached a plateau. I ran for 4 seasons before moving to stickies this year. R-compounds have the ability to cover up minor driving flaws to the point that you may never really correct them. Also, push a race tire to far and it's gone, no warning, no squealing, just nothing but cone collecting.... It's best to know the limits of the car before going to the super stickies, IMHO. ...but what the hell do I know?
