just wanted to start a new thread. where i can post problems i encounter. i am starting work on my rear suspension tonight. i already have the nuts soaking in wd40 in the parkinglot while i am at school. i am going to try the impact first. my buddies is supposed to put out 640 ft lbs. according to his dad. if it has this much power then it should work just fine. if not i have my persuader. w00t i am uber excited to finally do this! time for class. i will post how it goes (hopefully w/ picts) w00t
I do wonder how that'll perform without the rear sway bar. I have the rear swaybar (tEh gHeEtTo *1!) and it seems to do the job quite well. If we have another meet, we can compare our ride heights.
VICTORY!! i am so happy that this is done. we finished last night at about 1:30 whoo it was way easier than i was expecting it to be. there were some minor draw backs like geting a face full of brake fluid while bleeding but nothing major. i got a ton of pictures and i will try to post em later today. i got class now so i wont be on for a couple hours. SWEET SWEET VICTORY.
Yes! I can't wait to see it. Did you ever tell your dad about these? or are you still going to have to keep them cranked up pretty high when you come home. good work -Chux
i havent told my dad yet. right no it is slammed ALL the way down. i will probably leave it like that for another month the raise before snow. lets try some pictureshope this works first time posting a pic
my buddy kev taking out the lower retainign bolts close up of bolt removing The old spring set up. the c clamp is to take pressure of the top plate. this way the top plate wont go through the wall the coiloers going in the sucky top retainign bolts that are hard to get out / back on one side in back end on the ground (4 inch drop) front slammed driver side slammed passenger front Passenger rear w00t its all in. if any one else is ever going to do this pm me i can give you pointers.
hey that's not too low, maybe just a little lower from mine by about .5 inch. Should handle great! Need manual tranny!
yah, i havent heard any tutorials for tranny swaps tho. i heard about a guy that put a 6spd subbie trany on a h6 and his gears were al messed up. like REALLY messes up becuase of the startin position sensor or somethign liek that. it already handles alot stiffer.
all right....all you need now is some performance...mod's to the engine....oh wait....sway bar first.....
As long as you have an actual SPRING COMPRESSOR, it's fairly easy. I've done struts with C clamps 2 times, and let me tell you, ITS NOT FUN.
really?, when i did it i almost didnt use c clamps. when my buddy does em he just throws the impact on the end and hits it. the pieces dont go very far, and it doesnt hurt. it just scaries you to death. alos there are some slight issues with puttign the peices on again in the right order
cmon martin, you know it was way easier when we did the fronts with my spring compressors (once we figured out an angle that worked with those springs), those c-clamps just look plain dangerous. tbone, it's not very hard at all, I don't know why martin didn't just do hit himself *ahem*, ok that whole not having a garage, or even a paved surface might be part of it, but anyway, most of us would be happy to help if you'd like.
yeah chux, it would have been kinda bad to have my car roll down my gravel driveway with no back wheels on. (dont laugh this has almsot happened before). i think part of why the clamps worked ok is that the rear springs had less spring in them. maybe thqats the way the are or it could be becuase after i did the front iwas putting more wieght on the back ones wearing them out faster. no matter it only took 3 hours for the back. wasnt it like 4 for the front ones chux? chux you should slam your gl for a month or so it would be sweet.
I didn't recognize that you guys used a C-clamp. Did you two know that the upper body weight of a person is enough to compress the springs? I did not need spring compressors on my last spring install when I had my brother help.
you must be stronger than my becuase when i tried i couldnt get them to budge, and i really didnt want to be holding on to a compressed spring whil emy buddy had the impact on it.
