I'm running a VF39 in my WRX with turbo exhaust, catles UP/DP, Cobb and other supporting mods. My car has got crazy lag and slow spool up. It does seem to really punch until about 4500-5000 rpms. It's been like this ever since I did all the work and had the tune. But I've been suspicious reading about bigger turbos that spool up way faster. Is my laging-arse VF39 doing what it's supposed to?

    In short, no.

VF-39, even on a WRX 2.0 should be hitting full spool well before 4500. Closer to 3800. Do you have a boost gauge? What is your target boost? What map/EM are you running?

I'm hitting full bust about 5500 according to the dyno chart. I'm running a custom map tuned at DB Performance, target boost is around 18. I have a boost gauge and I'm hitting the target at about 4500.

I read about a guy that added the GM solenoid only to gain about 300 rpm in spool up. I'm still short 2k. Shane at DB suggested there might be a leak before the turbo. Maybe I'll jack up my car and check around the UP for leaky gaskets and such.

Tune or boost leak. My 18g hits full boost at 3500.

+ 1 billiongazillion, although you could try taking a look at the tune, first, before replacing hardware.

how can i take a log? before i get another tune, i'd probably get a bigger turbo. i would hate to spend $300 bucks on a new tune with the same snail. would an 18g or 20g be supported with my TMIC and 660 injectors? who else can tune with cobb besides DB?

Come down to FS sometime, or shoot me a PM, and we can pull some logs.

I had the same thoughts on DB and my tune. They are nice guys and treated me well, but I think there is more potential in my setup than what DB got out of it.

+1 How to get a log off the engine?

a log from the ecu would be pulled using a data logging software program and a OBD II cable.

He did mine and I have no complaints. 280HP and 310TQ on stock turbo. And VERY fast spool up. Just ask Zak or Shane86.

LOL... well it is not all APS. But it has always spooled very fast. And I have been documenting with every mod step I have done.
