I was watching fireworks a bit ago. Stopped the car under a street light. Shut it down, turned off the lights. I could see a bit of smoke coming through the TMIC scoop. Since it's an 02 WRX with only 36k, I was a bit concerned. This thing is not modified at all. I brought it home quickly. A little looking showed that there seems to be an oil leak somewhere. Just above the turbo intake tube there is another hose that goes from the intake pipe to somwhere I can't see. I'm sure it's a recirculate pipe. Anyways, there is some oil near that. I think it was moist near the hot turbo and smoked a bit. Any idea what that could be? Thanks

hmmm.....from experience take the TMIC off and you'll find your answer...for me i found out it was a cooler line that was leaking....but check for any residue ontop of the engine block....

Not sure what color the smoke was. It was dark and I was under a dim street light.

I am going to take the intercooler off this weekend and check things out. Anybody want to help (drink beer)?

Warranty is no longer available. The car has 36,500 miles and is already 3 months over 3 years.

Besides, there is nothing modified on this car.

You still have your 60k powertrain warranty.

    Tom,

I was told that the 60k powertrain warranty only covered things that were internal to the engine and transmission. I'm not saying that this isn't caused by an internal failure. I just don't want to take it in and get a $200 bill for a $20 gasket.

Is there any documentation on what is covered under the 60k warranty?

    Thanks,
    Derek

I was under the assumption that the powertrain warranty covered everything on the engine (except the turbo, I believe) and the tranny. I'll check my warranty book when I get a chance and look at the details.

Good luck! Hopefully, this gets fixed soon. :D
