I trying to smoke the taillights on my 02 WRX. I have tried to use tint film. But I run into the issue of the film bubbling up on one side or the other when trying to smooth it down. I don't if it is something I'm doing wrong or what. I have thought about using 4in stips but don't know if there would be a seam you could see. I have also thought about just using spray tint but don't know how well that will work.

For who have smoked their taillights could you give me some help on this. Thanks.

i used "window tint" RC paint, and then clear over that, if you do spray them, make sure you dont hold it too close, it runs SUPER easy, but looks great in the end

Good luck getting tint to stick to plastic effectively. It is designed to stick to glass, and it requires a heat gun to get the bubbles out. Plastic no likey heat!

Actually not to disagree with chin or anything but the rc plastic tint worked great for my tail lights (same as erick) did not run and sticked really well. I really suggest u doing that becasue if u don't want it anyone it's not a problem u would just grab some laker thiner and take it off...

Years ago when I worked for Champion Auto we sold a spray for tinting tail lights. It was in the paint section. Someone must still make it and sell it. I used it to tint the tail lights on my 1973 Dodge Challenger and it worked very well.

The plastic tasted really yucky but it left me with a great buzz, just before the headache set in.....hehehe

I know you tinted your's I saw them when I drove by the dealership. Oh and congrats on the promotion. Where did you get the stuff you used? The film I used didn't work so well and had to take it off.

Thanks for the options guys. If anyone has more ideas please let me know. I will post some pics when I get it done.

...no disagreement here, I was referring to the standard film tint meant for windows... Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Sorry if I'm a little late on this post, but I'd also agree on the RC tint paint. I've used it on RC bodies and it works quite well. As was already mentioned, it's very, very, very thin paint and very runny, think water runny. Apply thin coats, let sit for a bit. Add another thin coat. Repeat until you have the desired darkness. By a thin coat, it could be a sinlge sweap back and forth, then stop. Painting turns out best when you put the required time into it. Also, it allows for fine tuning of the tint and to adjust darkness in different areas to make the overall end result as even as possible.

Put up pics when you're done.

You guys wonder about light brightness after this little mod? How much dimmer is it? Is it actually legal? Any visibility problems? I'm just curious.

I have looked at other products like it but no I have looked at them... were are they found.

I did think about using RC tint but I don't want to run it the issue of a cop pulling me over and getting a ticket for it and having to get new taillights. That why I trying to find out what kind of films are out there I can use that I could remove later if need be.

    Thanks again for the ideas.
