Help me out quick, I removed my intake silencer off my 02 WRX and now my CEL is on constant. I don't have anything to read the code, so I'm just pulling the negative terminal and resetting it. I did remove the upper airbox to have a look inside and unhooked the MAF during snorkus removal though. Has anyone heard of this problem before/have any insights?

I've checked the plug connections already, and I didn't actually pull the MAF out, it was the only sensor I messed with so my thoughts turned to it. I'm going to go hook the thing back up and start it and see what happens.

Just started it up, no problems. One thing I did notice (caught me with my helmet on) is that I didn't tighten down the accordian tube to the airbox. :eek3: . HAHA, I feel so special...

I took the snorkel out last week and got a check engine light right away, reset the battery and have had no light since

+1. While the "mod" shouldn't cause a CEL, I reset the ECU when I did mine as well.

ok this is maybe a dumb question, but what's the snokus? is that the plastic tube in the fender that connectsthe air intake box where the air filter is, to the air intake at the front of the hood, and also connects to a plastic 'box' down in the right corner of the car?
what's the advantage to taking it out... more airflow? what about sucking in water from in the fender, does that ever happen?

    Yes.

Yeah, there is minimal, if any, performance increase by removing it. Most people just do it to hear the turbo pulling air a little louder.

    +1 on checker.

As for power-increase by removing the snorkus: I did the following intake mods on my WRX:

CAI: Nice increase in sound. Slowest times in the 1/4 (may have been because I was new to the car, but I did drive it that way for about 20 drag passes)

No-snorkus: Got rid of the CAI because I got A/F paranoid and also added an AVC-R and didn't want to blow an engine. Results: middle ground 1/4 mile times

Snorkus: Put this back on with the AVC-R and had fastest non-Reflashed tune drag passes

Full intake with Original Cobb Stage 2 @93. Best 1/4 mile times.

My unofficially validated opinion is keep the snorkus unless you're DYING to hear the BPV sound.

OK, so the CEL is listed as P0303, third cyl. misfire. I'm wondering if this is working in combination with the light flywheel in the car, since it supposedly throws a CEL when switching to closed loop on occasion...
