I know most snow tire don't have treadwear rating on them. So how long does a typical set of snow tires last you?? 2 season? or perhaps 3? I am asking this because is it worth getting a snow tires vs all season (with the best snow traction I can found) thx
I've put 4 seasons on my winter tires so far, approx 20k miles. They still have at least 50% of the original tread depth across the four tires. I could keep running them, but the siping is starting to get a bit shallow in some places, so the tires have kinda lost their edge. So, I'm probably going to get something better for next winter.
yeah i'd say a good 3-4 seasons. i've just completed two full winters on mine and i could easily do another one.
My blizzak revo1's look brand new after one winter's use. They harldy look worn at all. I'd say I could probably get at the very least 5 winters out of these I only drive about 4k a winter on them though.
I would say I'll get 3, possibly 4 winters out of my Hakka RSI's. I've worn them down to the 6 mark on the treadwear indicator, but I also left them on probably a month longer than I would've preferred. The difference in snow is noticeable though, they are worth it.
Just finished 2nd season on Dunlop Wintersport M3's, they looked brand-fricken new tread-wise when I swapped them off yesterday.
the ones i have had seen alot of winters, fong had them for 2-3 winters and i had htem for 1.....they still have alot of thread but i just feel like burning them out before i slap on my azenis. it's already seen 10k miles on dry road/hard cornering and still doesnt show any sign of wear
Remember that snow tires become useless a lot sooner than regular tires. While summer tires are still usable almost-bald, snow tires had generally lost the soft outer layer with all the little snow- and ice-biting surfaces by the time they're at 50%. That said, I recommend separate summer/winter tire sets for anyone who can afford them. Why compromise?!? (All-Season = Compromise) Plus you don't need a spare, you just leave one of the off-season wheels in the trunk.
I've got a set of snow tires for sale REALLY cheap haha check em out if your interested they are for 17"s though check it out http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10904
LOL good question...i've been running my snow tires ever since i bought the car from mr.fongster...which was a year and a half ago..still good life on it...
I put on my Pirelli Winter Carving tires in December. Just took them off on Tuesday and they still look brand new. I was definately not easy on them. I was also really impressed with how well they handled when pushed hard. As far as snow and ice go, they are VERY worth it. Like rskm1 said, all-seasons are lame. I'll never go back.
