Well i decided to actually get under my 95 legacy that i am sure a lot of you have seen my other threads. It leaks and is in need of some TLC.

Well i think i might have found the source of some of the oil leak if not all of it. The oil filter was just finger tightened, so i took it off and didnt think there was the o ring on there, but it had just stuck on to the housing. I didnt have time to get a new one, but i actually got it on tight.

The other major thing i noticed was that there was no gasket washer on the oil drain plug. So tomorrow i will just change the oil filter and drain plug with a gasket to see if that fixes it if not it looks like i will be using all of the gaskets i ordered.

Well anyways on to why i started this. I was doing a little reading and it appears that subaru's have a very toucjy MAF so they say to stay away from cai. This might only be for wrx's but they never really do too much to any car anyways.
So what i decided to do was like we used to do on mk2 vw's. Swiss cheese the air box. I started off by just removing the silencer, but figured hell why not drill a few holes in here to let a little more air in. So i drilled 3 3/4" holes in the front (i was planning on using the ducting above the headlight to go directly into the airbox instead of how it went into the silencer before. But havent gotten to that yet)

So now the car is significantly louder (not too sure i am happy with my decision haha) but what sucks is now it kinda feels doggy. It might have nothing to do with the airbox as i was kind of tinkering around with other stuff too, but i thought it would hopefully make a little bit of a performance gain like it does on older vws. Does anyone have any advise, or an explantion why this might have happened, otherwise the plan is to patch up the holes, and try something different.

Oh well, you live and you learn

I will have to give an ecu reset (battery disconnect) a try. I agree it definently did make quite a difference in sound. I bet yours sounds better, but if i just rig up some sort of exhaust i think i will like it better. I just dont know what i want to do for exhaust though. Since it is just a beater, i dont feel it is necesarry to get a full exhaust, maybe just cut off the rear box, and put some sort of a straight flow muffler, or some turbo muffler on there. We will see what i can get the best deal on haha (no to glasspacks, or fart cans in my opinion, but they might sound ok on a subaru)
