honestly, i just wanted to test the stuff out and it seemed like a reasonable "test" piece. Plan on doing a lot of interior work in my mercedes with it next and maybe some stuff in the wrx.

yeah, its a carbon overlay (real carbon, actually woven, but still just overlay)

i like the product well enough. corners are hard to do heat and stretch etc., but it worked well enough and that piece is as hard as most anything i'd want to cover

i'm going to start in 2 weeks. My car will be out of town until then.

Looks pretty nice. You should do other little pieces like that too. Maybe interior trim or something .

Ricer! So I thought the idea of the boxes was to get together and keep cost down by helping?

yeah, that's the plan. but i don't want to do it until i have my car here too! Unless someone sle wants to volunteer to be there during hte whole process...

the mercedes has a lot of small basically flat interior trim pieces that i'm going to do- it has stock super fake looking carbon fiber trim already, but i'm going to need a custom dash piece in order to fit my gauges and 9.2" lcd i'm putting in there. Now i can upgrade to this material and have that custom piece match the rest perfectly.

I'm sure some of it will find it's way to the wrx eventually too (other than just that piece) lol

    which pieces are those?

this stuff really doesn't look bad- the best "fake" i've seen yet (since it is "real" just super thin and an overlay)

    actually, i probably haven't

    lol

this stuff and a heat gun should be able to do a lot... this material isn't terribly cheap either though.

got pics of the curves your working with?

yeah, real carbon materials are expensive, but not that bad either

I've worked with it quite a bit- however, this is a much simpler, cheaper (i'd say 50% total including all materials), and reversible option (if you screw this up you take it off and do it again- or just paint the piece or whatever)

it looks like those pieces would be pretty doable.

Materials only for those would be like $50 or something

i guess we could do it that way-

probably better just to meet up and give it a try sometime

i'd want you to see the stuff in person etc., before you pay for anything

Rochester 90% of the time. My folks live in Red Wing- and i keep a couple of my cars there in storage and my tools. Also, i come to the twin cities a lot. Maybe if i come up for the sub box group buy thing (i will) we could do it then
