...to spot those pesky planes. Radar detectors only work to a certain point.

Clocked at 91 on 94w near dowling this morning, an hour late for work. Needless to say, I was an hour and a half late instead.

Got off with a careless driving citation. See? Being nice and complacent with the officer works wonders! Now I just need to find out how much it's gonna cost me.:emo:

    careless isnt a cheap ticket.

91 mph...ouch. At 26 over, I'm suprised you didnt get hit harder than that. I dont remember 94 having a 70mph zone, but I havent been in mn more than a month in the past 2 years.

Indeed. Not arguing with that at all. And it's gonna be $175, let alone what the insurance will go up to if they find out about it.

Pra4sno, it was a 60 mph zone... so I could've really been whacked, especially since I got caught speeding in the same area in November because, once again, I was late for work. It wouldn't be as big a deal if I was late for work if it didn't hold up 20 guys in the warehouse from doing any work... Still not an excuse though.

It does out west of Maple Grove, but for the most part it is 55-60 mph through the downtown area.

It can be, it depends on the officer. If he got caught doing 60 in a 30 I'd bet he'd be rattling a cup on the bars right now.

I got tagged there a couple of years ago coming back from Ojibwe. 82 in a 70, got off with a warning. Thank God for firefighter plates and a Sheriff in a good mood.

Yea, I know double the speed limit is an immediate felony but I don't believe that 30 mph over on a 3 lane highway constitutes going directly to jail without passing go.

30 can be a host of things.

    Careless-obviously, he did.
Unreasonable Accel/exhibition drivingif passing or merging in traffic is $105
Speeding-a general speeding ticket compounds as the speed increases if Im remembering right. 31+ for instance is $215
If he missed a single turn signal, which while driving that quickly it would be easy to, they could hit you for another $115

He's actually VERY lucky, as in most states, and im fairly certin, in MN (would have to check), 29mph is the end of an offense being a moving violation. 30+ over is a criminal misdemeanor. You wouldnt have gone to Jail for certain, but you would have been brought in and finger printed before you were released.

I personally don't think going 90 in an STI is that bad....Going 90 in my beater 96 Camry is unsafe. But I think going 90 in an STI is much safer then going 70 in half the cars on the highway.

Unfortunately the law doesn't accommodate for the ability of the car. The driver is always going to be the lowest common denominator. I know plenty of terrible drivers that can't handle cars with spectacular potential.

well it isnt a matter of whether it is bad in your opinion.. its breaking the law... heck I have done 115mph back when Tom was tuning my WRX... felt solid on the road... but so would the bridge supports or lights poles if I lost it...

heck.. the OP was not whining or complaining.. for once!!! He knew he was in the wrong and he took it like a man...

Kudos to the OP for his attitude in this whole thing..

most the goons on here would be crying that they hate the F*&^&%^%& pigs and they suck, and the cop had a bad attitude yada yada...

I find his OP funny, only cause of his good attitude in this whole thing...

I keep it to a max of 10 over and have not gotten a ticket in five years. Except when in Duluth. They give you a warning at 15 over, lol.

I like paying $375 a year for insurance.

Oh yeah they do. My sister was timed by a plane and got a speeding ticket on her way to Mankato when she was commuting for school.

That is what those white lines are for that cross part of the lanes.

$375 a year?!?!? What do you drive? Which insurance company are you with? How old are you?

I pay around $1100 total for a year (just under $100 per month), and I'm with Progressive. Cheapest by far in my comparisons. No speeding tickets on record. '04 WRX and I'm 25.

I found out in TX you can get probation (deferred disposition) on speeding tickets. You just make sure not to get another one (or any other criminal offense for that matter) for the next 3 months and they'll throw it out. Obviously you probably can't have a history of offenses but when I got ticketed for going 52 in a 45 I was allowed the probation because I hadn't had any moving violations in over 10 years. Of course it wasn't free, I had to post bond on the ticket (which got refunded at the end of the probation period) and pay over $100 in administration fees (non-refundable).

Silly thing was when I contacted my insurance agent to ask if the speeding ticket would affect my premiums he laughed at me. I guess one offense in over 10 years wouldn't matter as long as I didn't add a second within 4-5 years. Oh well, I guess that still means I have one freebie.

Piddster neglected to mention he drives a 10+ year old car. I'm sure his rates would be different with a newer WRX.

Yeah, both of these points are true in most states. It depends on your insurance carrier, but most will allow you some flexibility in terms of speeding tickets and rates.

In MN if the ticket is 20 mph over or more then you can't get a deferred disposition.

Yeah, a '93 Legacy flies under their radar, just a little bit.

I did the deferred disposition once. I had to be good for a year.

Yea but 91 mph is approaching blackout territory, so it would be dangerous and illegal.

There's no radar involved, just simple math. Distance/Time=Speed (or you were paced).

Yes, It does pay to be NICE to the officer...Last time i got pulled over I met the Cheif of police for St. Paul...I was nice and never asked for any paper work. A little helpful hint for us speederes out there. If you get cought TRY and pull OFF the highway (nearest off ramp), that puts the officers life out of harms way= points for you. If at night turn on your inside dome lights= points for you. Keep hands on wheel at all times. unless going for papers. Lesson here is to make the officer feel comfortable with you and to keep his life safe. Thats the lesson for the day.

Yeah, you'd also benefit by rolling down ALL the windows and turning off the car and placing the keys on the dash. :)

Although if the officer has already decided he's giving you a ticket....not much can do.

Just kidding. You guys know I don't drink
