I should get some pictures next time. Up in Saint Anthony on Hiway 8. Saw a blue dodge hemi magnum, then a dogde charger with flashing lights. Damn, these cops getting high tech now.
probably vehicles confiscated from drug bust or felony crimes.... they then become the property of the state.. ha ha ha pimpin cops... now if they only bust Fong for PIMPIN all those LESBIANs then maybe they will cruise in REAL STYLE..... see Fong I put somethign nice about your car
I followed a Dodge full-size truck for 30 miles a month ago. He had regular citizen plates and one of the christian fish logos on the back. He had a few UHF antennas on the truck and I could just make out the police lights behind the tinting and he was radar gunning oncoming traffic the whole time I followed him (radar detector would just go nuts everytime he raised the gun up). Are they trying to get really sneaky or was this just some wanta be a cop lunatic???
This really raises (at least in my mind) an interesting question. If the cop was in a normal black and white, the car would be highly visible and the posted speed would be observed, at least in the vicinity of that car. Which, if you think about it is what they say they want because "speed kills" and the l"aw is the law". By going undercover in "stealth cars" there is no prevention to speak of, but they get to catch people, pull them over and than get their (the cops) time chewed up by running the plate, talking with the driver, maybe a ticket, maybe a warning...and thus prevent nothing, (I am referring to speeding on said current stretch of highway). I am becoming cynical the older I get and believe for the most part it is becoming less about prevention and more about $$$ for the city, county and state. Please chime in!
Nothing to do with age, brother. I completely agree. In California, that is what they normally would do. Hop on the freeway, do 68mph, if anyone passed them....pull them over. Otherwise, like you said, everyone around them does the speed they are doing or less and everyone obeys the law. Protecting and serving and promoting safety. Or they can just get stealth cars and hide in the dark and make a quick buck. But from what I hear, MPLS police are overworked with all the crap that goes on downtown. Speeders take up alot of the time they should be out getting real criminals...which is also BS because they can prioritize just like anyone else can. "Hey, that guy is doing 75 in the 65! Awww, forget it, we have more pressing issues to attend to, lets just roll up next to him and get him and the other 100 cars on this freeway to slow down a bit." Not too hard if you ask me.
Back in FL we had a couple unmarked police minivans. I almost passed one, and decided that it was a bad idea to speed cuz it was quota time, and about 10 seconds later it lit up like an xmas tree, and started chasing the dude in front of him. Also, with their new street racing laws (first offense, you go to jail for a short bit, suspended liscense for a year, big ass fine, and car's impounded for 10 days or so. SECOND offense within five years, jail time, larger fine, you forefit your car to the state, end of story) they're converting a number of the cars that they take into cop cars. They don't really use them for speeding enforcement, but they'll have one marked car hiding, and use the "rice" car to rev at people (nothing more, otherwise it's entrapment, revving isn't according to numerous court cases down there) and if they "race" (defined as undue accelleration) the marked and unmarked pull em over together. But I've seen a Dodge Magnum, that minivan, 2005 Mustang GT, Civic, Crown Vic, Integra, all number of SUV's, and others that aren't coming to mind right now. (in FL, not here)
Last Wednesday at the foos tourny I was talking to the local cops (they play foosball with us) and they were talking about getting a charger. I was trying to convince them to get suby's because they're awd and would be better in the winter. But I guess the reason they can't pick them up is because the nearest dealership is in Duluth (at least an hour away) and maitenance would be a pita. Oh well, at least I'll still be able to outrun them in the winter
Oakdale PD has a camaro, then I recently saw a green dodge ram on 35w in roseville, and white caravan speeding down 694E with lights.
Had all blacked out police Dodge Charger follow from about a mile behind me from Monticello to St. Cloud this morning. Think he was going to a conference or something in St. Cloud. He had low profile antennas, a single small spotlight, and civilian plates. The lights and radar system are very had to see unless you are right behind the car. Radar detector was going off the whole way so I went slow and did not see him till I got off 94 at 75. I have seen lots of plates "POLICE". What is with the regular civilian plates???
A few months ago they had a segment on CNN with a lady that got charged with evading a police officer. She would not pull over due to the vehicle the cop was driving was an unmarked SUV with the cherries that are attatched to the Visor on the passenger side. Eventually she did get stopped by another regular cop car. She took this case to court, claiming she thought it was NOT a cop, but someone impersonating one, and was going to rob her or worse. She won the case. So maybe next time your getting pulled over by an unmarked, just outrun the bastard, if you get caught...whats the worse that could happen ? (Just playing don't take my advice)
Yup. I've seen a black charger a bunch of times but it doesn't look like a patrol. He looks at me every time I drive by though. Is it one with the lights in the grille?
Wayzata just got a Charger squad. I took this picture last night. Officer said they got them "a few days ago". Yeah, it's a little blurry, but that's because I was trying to snap him as he rolled through - I didn't think he'd pull up after a little bit. All his lights were integrated.
^wow the cops actually got a decent cop car now. i still think that they should be using STis. i have made many PROVEN points on tis before. as for the high cop sightings i went to the walker and back tonight and saw atleast 3 or 4 speed traps. thats crazy, i am lucky i didnt get pulled over (not that i speed or anything) EDIT: ^ i know where that BP station is. thats pretty close to where i live (time to slow down when i see a chargeer comin)
With the advent of LEDs, it's getting a lot easier for them to start hiding the lights since they're so much smaller and brighter and use less power to boot. A lot of departments have been able to do away with lightbars altogether, or they have the aero bars that are almost impossible to spot until you're too close to do anything about it.
Yes, they have. And those LEDs are so freakin awesome too. I love the ones that go back and forth and speed up and slow down. Pretty trippy. Well, as long as they're not on behind you, of course. Yeah, watch it. He's REALLY hard to tell he's a cop since it's only the doors that are painted white. From behind or ahead it's pretty hard, from a distance.
Had a cop sightning last night. he blocked me into my friends driveway. told me my exhuast was too loud, and we ended up talking about my car for a while. in the end he told to just "take it easy thourgh the residentail areas". i think i impressed him w/ my subaru knowledge. and being really nice helped too. that cop was cool! he was in the deephaven ford exporer.
