I drive 35E (South and North bound) in St. Paul frequently and pass through a speed trap almost every day in between Kellogg and Randolph where the speed limit drops down to 45 MPH. Marked, unmarked, motorcycle, and State Patrol are out any given day of the week there and usually during the day around 11am to 7pm. Hardly see 'em at night, maybe a lurker hiding under a bridge or up on the bank in the grass but nothing organized like they are during the day. And they were out in full effect today at 1pm. Four cops on bikes total right before Kellogg, must have been a slow day with nothing else to do. They had one po-po runnin' radar and the other pullin' 'em over passin' out tickets on each side of the highway. It's a dead giveaway when the herd of cars starts braking at the same time for no apparent reason about a quarter mile before the trap. But be careful if you’re on your own you might get picked off. We should make a sticky for Speed Trap Warnings and list the latest areas to look out for. I know I'd much rather put the money into mods than speeding tickets. No?
EVERY DAY in Eden Prairie where 312 meets 5 - to Prarie Center Drive. NEVER, ever ever ever speed thru there. EVER.
Mine went off ALL THE TIME in the area the OP is talking about... same with my x50. There's always construction, stores, those "your speed is" radar signs off the side streets, or something else triggering the detector in that area. Both detectors were recently calibrated too. Although for me, any detector was useless in my neighborhood and along my commute. You have to be trying to speed recklessly through city streets. I usually just follow the flow of traffic, go slightly faster than traffic, or follow a rabbit when I have to jump on the hwy and need to get somewhere in a hurry... that seems to work :dunno:
I had a radar detector in my camaro, that thing made me more paranoid than it did me any good. They are really annoying if you use them in the city.
I turned the X band completely off in my V1, because I've never come across a cop that used that band. I like it because I drive back and forth from Mankato so much, it has saved my ass more than a few times.
Or instant on. Patrolling the 45 section of 35E heavily for anything but wayward trucks is new. Everyone knows that speed limit is bull****.
I don't know if there is any truth to this but I heard the 45mph limit was to appease all the rich a-holes that live on the hill right there. Apparently there was concern with the amount of noise coming from having 35e running right by their houses so the agreement was no faster than 45mph.
Yes, there was a lawsuit by some of the people around there and it had to be classified as a "parkway" prohibting trucks and giving it a 45 mph.
I see cops lot through Jordan on 169.. watch out. it changes from 65 to 55 quick. they just wait... Chaska is full of cops.. that hwy 41 sucks ass
I've only seen instant-on in town, and you still get a warning from the cop using it on someone a mile in front of you. I had to run back up to pick up my suit for an interview, and was warned of four cruisers.
definitely watchout for this area around 35/494 If you are driving solo do not speed usually through fall and winter they cool off but come spring time and summer it is HOT in this area
the worst place to speed that I know of is the corner between university ave SE and 10th Ave SE bridge, and also the next block at 10th ave and 4th st. I see every day at least two people getting pulled over. the speed trap is always on the north end of the bridge and they check only the north bound traffic.
Yeah I drive over the bridge quite often and I know not to speed. They sit right in that vacant lot right off of 35 across from the BP. 30 feels like you are crawling across that bridge, but they are serious about enforcing it...
yep. but that's not the only thing that they enforce. also red light and right turn on red light if you don't stop, I've seen soooo many people getting pulled over in that 1/4 mile....
Wisconsin State Patrol has some motorcycles on 94 now too. They look exactly like som 50 year old's Harley. I will say the Minnesota police actually seem to use them a lot now. I've seen them in like Feb with sidecars.
They are back at it again but this time they are sneaky... Today between 1pm and 130pm, three Staties on the Southbound 35e stretch I mentioned before in the FP (first post). They are getting tricky though; the first Statie you can see from a ways back and of course you slow down for him. But he's the decoy because just when you think you're in the clear and you start to speed up again, there are two more Staties down the interstate a couple of miles ready to tag you. Cheeky monkeys.
I use trapster on my iphone. It helps find the speed traps for me and I gave some rice burner a ticket on my way home from the bar Saturday night. It was funny seeing his face redden up as I drove past him with the cop writing a ticket.
