I just got a ticket... in the yellow car. What I'm wondering is what is the highest speed only fine anyone has gotten. Mine seems absolutely preposterous, they hit me with the highest fine possible on their fine schedule, $377.00

I'm going to court to try to get a reduction, but what's the record around here for a speed only fine? Mine seems a bit high if you ask me, I got caught for 75 in a 40 (it was 50mph the block before) in eagan.

Any tips for fighting in dakota county? I have a clean driving record, this is a first offense for me.

Impressive, your going to have to go to court, I'm fairly certain on that, I got one awhile back and I was 15 or and the court officer or whatever you call them, couldn't help me, so I had to go to court, and I worked out a good deal, but that was hennepin county too, not dakota. Good luck!

35 over is going to be tough. I got busted doing 80 in a 60 = $130. The best part was he clocked me on the on-ramp...I was under 55 when I actually hit the highway, he even said so.

I got one for 12 over, went and talked to a hearing officer and paid 150 instead of 145 on a year probation, no same or simalar and it will never go on my record. 377 does sound high but I don't know. Was it a construction zone?

Go and see if the judge will give you a same or similar. I've had a few trips to dakota county courthouse. Check with the prosecutor and/or judge, 9 times out of 10 if you have a clean record they will hook you up - if they won't give you a same or similar usually they will knock the fine down.

pardon the n00bish question, but what is a same or smiliar?

And sorry to hear about that ticket. I've had one, it was on a trip from Fl to NY, and back. I got nailed for 75 in a 60 in Maryland. I just paid the thing, but MD and Michigan don't have reciprocity, so it never went on my record *happy dance*

Yes, ask for a PRIVATE HEARING with the Hearing officer before attempting to get in front of a judge. You should get some sort of reduction, but it's still going to cost you plenty. 75 in a 40 :eek4:

ouch..... i knew this was coming (no tickets yet in teh yellow car jinx).

$377 is absurd! i got an 88 in a 70 (he clocked me when i was slowing down :lucky:) and it was $110. you are lucky though since supposedly MN has a new (2yrs old or so) that 20 over = loss of liscense for 6 months. i would talk to the parol/hearing officer and see what they can do.

    good luck w/ that.

also to you on ramp speeders i heard somewhere that the speed limit on on ramps is 45mph. is that true?

Go to court and fight it. Just show up and talk to the procecuter and most likely they will slap you with a no same or similar and a small fine. That way you wont get your first speeding ticket on your record ;)

Well, you were almost 2x the limit. Even if it was a 50 you were 25mph over the limit. Nothing to scauf at. Supprised he didn't get you for wreckless driving.

so there isnt anything about a hearing officer or anything like that, just a court date and a time. How can i request a hearing officer or contact one?

Also, if there is some 30 over is a big no no law, am I just going to get more screwed if I go to court? The cop told me I didn't need to go in to court and I could just pay the fine, and the only thing I got cited for was the speed. The limit was 50mph one block behind where he clocked me, that would have lowered the fine by more than $100.

I'm really annoyed by how much this fine is for, but I guess 75 in a 40 is pretty bad. It was on lexington in eagan which is 4 lanes divided and there was no traffic so it wasn't like I was booking through a residential neighborhood or anything.

The cop did congratualte me on being the only car so far to outun his hemi charger. I dind't even notice he was a cop until I started pulling away from him on the highway.

^ there should be a number on teh ticket to contact the court. i would try that and ask to speak to a hearing officer or someone.

congratz on outrunning the hemi lol.

should challenged him to a skrret race lol. you win no ticket, he wins you pay the ticket. i bet he would have acepted to test out his charger.

unmarked dark gray dodge charger RT. I didnt see the lights at fist since my wing was blocking them and the other lighs were in the gille and he was right behind me. It wasnt till i started to pull on him on 55 that I saw the cop lights, then i pulled over.

He wasn't angry, the first thing he said was that it was the first time he had been beaten in his hemi, and he was smiling. He said he threw out some court thing on my behalf.

Just show up on your court date and you will be able to talk to somebody before they throw you in front of a judge. Im almost certain you will get a no same or similar with your driving record.

Damn...I got got a ticket around 9-10 yrs ago going 60 in a 30 in Edina and that cop was pissed off when he pulled me over, but my fine wasn't anything near the fine that you just got. Mine was less than $150 so the penalties must have gone up since then.
The last ticket I got was about 5 yrs ago, I was going 120mph down 494 and when I came up to the Portland exit about 2 min later a HP pulled behind and got on his PA to tell me to pull over after the light turns green. I thought I was going to be f^%#d. He asked me how fast I was going and I said around 75mph and he laughed saying he was going 90 and he wasn't catching me, then he asked why I was going so fast and all I could think of to say is I was having a bad night and then he said "well prepare for it to get worse" blaugh blaugh blaugh, once he pulled up my record he said I would lose my lic because of so many tickets. Then as the Richfield popo's pulled up and a tow-truck was on the way, the cop asked me why I was having a bad night the only thing I could think of was to say "all I have to say is women" and then he said "I hear that". He ended up calling off the backup police and since the tow-truck wasn't there yet, he let me go with a careless driving and said he doesn't ever want to see me again.:eek3:
Considering I had a beer or two and was going as fast I was, I got off really easy!
Main thing...that was my last ticket and it taught me a lesson!

:+1: $377 is nothing he may have saved your life or the life of another motorist! I've had my share of tickets but that is too much for me. the cheapest way out of this ticket would have been to slow down. Sorry don't mean to tear into you but DANG thats fast.

Its a four lane road in an industrial area, during the middle of the afternoon with nobody on it. It wasn't crazy fast down a one way with children frolicking on the sides of the street.

I'm just going to show up at court and see what happens with the prosecutor.

you can come down off of your high horse anytime now...

No, actually I never go more than 5 over, and even that's rare. Speed Limits are laws, you broke the law now pay up.

And the reason the speed limit near St. Paul on 35 is because the Governors mansion is nearby.

I know, I was just saying. Going 10mph over the speed limit gives you leeway in court. I wasn't paying attention, it was 50mph the block before, honest! my speedo doesn't work, etc, etc. 2x the speed limit and you don't have excuses as to why you are going so fast anymore!;)

I also thought anything 20mph over the speed limit was wreckless driving. Maybe just a wives tale I heard.

    ouch, bet ya by $1.

as for a wreckles i think that they need to be able to prove that you were endangering others. atleast i am pretty sure. so if no one is there to endanger can it be a wreckless?

for a careless they need to prove that you were driving w/ out care. i have heard of people getting out of carelesses by saying that they knew exactly what they were doing (even though ti was stupid) by saying that the by acknowledgin you knew what you were doing you no longer apply to the rules rearding careless (according to the people who did this).

    stupid fine print.

Anything 31mph and over you're going to have to pay $378. Go to a hearing officer and they might be nice and drop down the fine some bit being that you have a clean record.

Anything 25mph and over the speeding ticket will GO ON your record even if it's the FIRST because of the amount of speed that you went over.

For me...I don't speed, but rather go with traffic if they're moving pretty good. Times I get CAUGHT for speeding are when I'm doing test runs and diagnosing problems with my car *sigh*.

Considering the Wisconsin government made it illegal for unmarried people to spend the night and used to enforce it in the Sixties, I have a very dim view of "the law."

I take it then that you never drank under the age of 21?
