i am in dying need to get my utec tuned. i have no friggin idea on how to tune cars. i bought my car from a guy that had it installed. he said he "got it tuned in chicago." when i give my car full throttle...my check engine light flashes and my car hesitates BAD! i know its not good. So basically i was wondering if the people at Speedlab Motorsports were good tuners? and if they are not...is there anybody that can come over and tune it for me? all replies are appreciated. thanks

and me are the most capiable of tuning your car.

If your CEL is flashing you are knocking. If you continue to drive it you can kill it. Is this the blue WRX with the body kit and the front mount?

I don't know anyone at Speedlab nor have I done business with them so I can't give you any suggestion.

Here on the board, we have Matt, Russ and Joel who I know are pretty good with the Utec. Unless you want to drive down to Chicago and have Jorge tune it for you ;)

It's the Holiday so you may not hear back right away but they'll chime in.

What does a UTEC run these days? I would be willing to pay one of the listed folks to tune me. I am still running the Cobb AP, but I am reaching the line of its limitations...and their AccessTuner software isn't being released fast enough. Although I did hear there was an authorized Cobb dealer in Madison, WI.
So yeah, what would a UTEC go for these days, or is there a better option? ;)

First off, DO NOT drive the car hard if the CEL flashes when you do it. Give us a complete list of your power mods (chiefly: turbo, injectors, exhaust, etc). Next we need you to figure out what map your UTEC is currently running and which (if any) other maps are on there. As a failsafe you could set it up to run a TXS basemap.

At least get yourself to the point where you have a laptop and have read the UTEC Manual (download from TXS website if you don't already have it), so you can understand how to check the maps and change things if need be.

I'm on AIM as JoelCFC25 and MSN as [email protected]

Ya, what was stated above. Every time the ceck engine light flashes, it is one step close to the motor exploding. A list of mods will allow us to help ya out. If you have a laptop do some logging and post them up, and we can get ya dialed in a bit closer.

my only power mods are....gt spec uppipe, invidia downpipe, hks exhaust and the utec. the guy that sold me the car didnt say what maps were one there. all he said was...put the selecter switch to #2 for daily driving...and put it on #3 for racing. i dont know sheit about the utec...but i know thats not the way to do it. i have read the manual. and i do have a laptop...but still no clue. but like readymix said..im willing to pay someone to tune it.

Where do you live?? I am on the east side of St. Paul. Since you have a laptop and such, I can get ya started on logging. From there all you have to do is pulls some logs and we can get ya pointed in the right direction.

Also, you could download the Stage 2 map from TXS and upload it onto the UTEC, that should work fine for your mods, and be plenty rich. Sounds like you could put it in slot 1 or 4, probably 5 too. All the information you need is in the UTEC manual.

if everything seems to connect ok, just hit the enter/return key and see if the menu pops up.

double check that the settings for the connection are correct. after you start hyperterminal YOU MUST HIT THE ENTER KEY before the UTEC menu shows up.

I dont think Speedlab does tuning for Subaru's right now. Ive been there a couple times to have my WRX worked on and have been very pleased with Noah's service. I highly recommend them!

Speedlab is a good shop. I don't know about tuning but they have a nice shop.
