Oh yeah, I need to lower my car:biggrin: Recommend Springs or Coilovers and which brands? Sorry never read much on suspension.
Springs if its a daily driver. I think coil over suck when you have to deal with them everyday. The best thing you can do is try and get a ride in cars with both.
Prodrive springs are a great choice. Coilovers tend to be REALLY bump on MN roads. for comforts sake I would say springs//struts.
Better move fast on the Prodrives....they are no longer available in the states...if you get lucky a distributor might have a pair or two left.
i agree whole heartedly with everyone that has suggested staying away from coilovers...if you feel you might need them, i would give you a ride in my wagon
don't get me wrong, i love my coilovers to dealth, they completely changed the car. but honestly, they are dumb to have in MN.
Will keep this on track. If you are looking for coilovers, I just saw a post on RS25 for some RCE ones that look pretty sweet! http://www.rs25.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77068
They're back now, Cosworth is distributing for them now. Prices have gone up a bit now, though... partly the dollar's fault. To stay on topic though - Why do you need coilovers? They do need to be rebuilt every now and again, and are probably going to suck to DD on our roads. As for springs - just looking to drop it, or looking for handling as well?
I have coilovers and hate them I need new struts, then I will love them again. Just get springs, don't waste the $$ on coilovers
Just looking to be dropped a bit NOT SLAMMED. So these Prodrive Springs will work good with the stock struts? I was just talking to some people from ClubRSX and they say do it right the first time and get Full Coil-Overs?? Is our struts tougher?
Do you drive an RSX? No. You want springs, unless you can completely articulate why you need coilovers. And "OMG it costs $$$$ it must be good!" or "the mags said I wouldn't get any if I don't roll on coiloverzz!!11" are not legit reasons. How much is dropped 'a bit'? An inch? Two? Are you looking for BMW-ish fender gaps? (If so, you bought the wrong car...) I should point out that most of my research has been on WRX/RS/2.5i suspensions, though I seem to recall STI's being lower (1in or so) from the factory. I'll have to go poke around for your STI stuff. http://www.iwsti.com/forums/suspension-handling-stiffening/84816-sti-suspension-buyers-guide.html http://www.iwsti.com/forums/suspension-handling-stiffening/92431-sti-suspension-depot.html http://www.iwsti.com/forums/suspens...ion-handling-stiffening-threads-interest.html
Well I just wanted to make sure that using just lowering springs won't cause as much harm as the RSX's does. Just because their struts break quickly with just springs. Hell this whole time I've been listening to my brother and NUKE
I've had both Eibach pro-kit springs on stock struts and K-Sport coilovers. I also take my car to the track. I think coilovers are worth it if you take your car to the track or auto-x, or want to slam your car super low for auto shows. They performed better than spring/struts, but hey have a much harsher ride and require maintance. You'll need to rebuild often and adjust springs constantly. Go with Springs/strut combo.
You see^^^ He does the closing statement:laugh: Will do! I better go on doing research on Prodrive Springs see how low they drop. Does Cobb's work just as well?
So where did you find the Prodrive Springs? Only place I can find it on was eBay. Otherwise what other Springs do work as good or is this one your favorite?
what a bunch of ninies, buy coilovers...ask carl or justin,or shorty, or the million others that have them
http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop/prodrive-2005-sti-lowering-springs-p-2184.html Ask kvang if you want to see how prodrives look, it's a nice drop and not too low. You'll like it
Oh. Do I hear debate? J/K Yeah I need to see what the car looks like. Don't want to be scraping when I get that front lip.
Prodrives still in stock at oakos: http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=3700 They're not my personal pick of springs, though... they're designed to even out the fender gaps more than anything, so it rakes you forward a bit. That being said, like I said earlier... I'm more up on WRX/RS/2.5i stuff... so my picks of springs are entirely different from what a STI'd want.
leave me out of this! I'm ditching my ksport rally specs as soon as I have the funds for tokico dspecs and ground control sleeves lol. or forester sti struts. the bc coilovers I had before were excellent. So were both the megan street and track coilovers I ran on my 240sx's. I've been daily driving coilovers for 3 years with little complaints (except for the ksports. they work well enough as they were intended - on gravel but overall the valving is just too crappy for the street or for any serious offroading)
i love the feel of a good set of coilovers in a turn. my buddyclubs were easy to put on and dont ride too harsh. and ive owned cars with just coilovers and just springs. another thing to consider if you have the money for coilovers is to get a spring/strut combo.
The RCE blacks would be a good choice as well. The yellows will give you more drop (10mm) but the STI has very little bump travel the way it is. Don't get coil overs unless you plan on tracking the car more then once in a while or you want to slam the car. The cheaper ones just aren't worth it for a DD.
It depends on the coilovers, really. I'm using the H&R Street Performance coilovers and couldn't be happier, and I've had them on for over two years, all year long. Curly2k3's experience is a little biased since he has rediculously stiff springs. Mine are not nearly as harsh. Also, I'm using Group N top hats instead of camber plates so there is a little give there as well. I give up some adjustability with my setup since the dampners are non-adjustable, but since the dampners are well matches to the springs, there's no need for me to adjust them in that respect. It also depends on what you want to do with the car. If all you want is a lower ride height, slap some springs in there, and then replace your struts when they are shot about six months later.
That won't happen as long as you use a spring with a mild drop (Prodrive, pinks, RCE blacks and yellows, etc).
exactly not s techs...whoops i run them i love the drop and i've dealt with the fact i'll probably have to change struts once a year....oh well hahah
Prodrives plus stock struts on my 04 WRX... :yumyum: They are stiffer then stock, but I really think they do a nice job!
Prodrives available for 05 + SIT's... http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop/prodrive-2005-sti-lowering-springs-p-2184.html http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PRDSPR Just incase your looking!
Ok, I will chime in...you are full of s***. DD are not the intended place for coilovers, especially in MN. Good luck with the perches after a winter of salt, unless you are judicious with the maintainence. Yes, I have them. ...or maybe I just missed an inside joke. With that being said...I am on the fence for the STi. Either Ohlins or TIC coilovers. They are about the same price, but the only thing holding me back on the TICs is the winter issue. I am only even considering it becuase the car is not really a DD anymore. We drive the wifes FX to work every day...
I have run coilovers for the past 5 years on my DD, and while the roads here are beautiful, the ones on base are not so. I have no issue with them, and toys like Tein's EDFC make them perfect for a multi-use platform. When most people buy coilovers they buy them for the wrong reasons. As stated before, for poon, for uber drop, or for the sake of saying "I have coilovers" are not justification for running them. If you are looking for a lowered look, and a very mild improvement in cornering prowess, go with the springs and decent struts. If you know what you are doing, and want a fully tune-able suspension set up get some good coilovers and never look back. To say "coil overs suck" or "I hate coilovers because the ones I have are too stiff for MN roads" is just ignorant. Because there is such a large choice in options.. valving, spring rates, mono/twin tube, blah blah, there is no way to make such a blanket statement. Add to that driver preferences, and there are just too many variables to make generalizations about them all. My vote for you is good springs and struts and enjoy it. Personally I will keep beating my kidneys up  Edit: As for the winter issue, that is why you swap out your stockers when the weather turns... 45min is all it takes.
The travel of the AST (TiC) coil overs is killer. His development thread was just a wealth of info on why you should be aware of what you are buying.
