I have no clue about phones. All I know is I want a new phone that I can download Google maps for driving directions....and I don't want to pay for Sprint Navigation Any suggestions? What do people have? I'd rather not redo my contract so I'll probably just buy one outright.... thanks!
step one: drop sprint... for real though... i have the blackberry 8830 and it has something that is pretty damn close to the google maps. but as soon as my contract is up im leaving sprint.
HTC Touch, or just about anything from HTC besides the Mogul. All really good phones. If you wanna play with my phone for a bit, let me know. I've got the touch.
iPhone is only availalbe on the AT&T network. Like others have said, drop Sprint because they blow and get Verizon and the Storm if you want a real phone
Lies. One word; Jailbreak (and I'm not talking about the TV show). Anyway Dave, you may be better off with an actual car GPS unit if you need navi. It'll probably be cheaper.
i have the 8820 because cameraphones are barred from my work - no complaints though, my second blackberry

here's a little history. had verizon for years. hated the customer service and frequent issues with the billing. phone service itself was pretty good. I've had sprint for a year. I kept breaking phones previously so I decided to drop all bells and whistles and buy a cheap military grade phone. not bad, no complaints, but i really miss all the fancy features like internet, gps nav., etc etc I've had no issues with sprint, their service, or customer service. I just want a good phone that I can use for internet, GPS (driving), and email.
Sprint = teh rapeage. I had it about 5 years ago and my bill was a different price every month, service charges here and there, and random roaming charges even though I rarely used my phone. It was actually cheaper to pay the early termination fee than to stick with them for another 7 months. Anyway, I think any of the Blackberry's can deliver what you're looking for.
I have the instinct (got it for $80) and have the everything plan, so gps is included. I do see on the instinct forums, others using google map and having success with it.
I'm still gonna push the Touch. It really is a good phone. Windows Mobile 6.1 on it, works great. MANY MANY applications out there for it, too, which is a big plus. One complaint - battery life isn't great. If you're using it for GPS, make sure you have a car charger. GPS tends to eat the battery quite quickly. That's pretty much it, tho.
Verizon charges you to use the gps built into Blackberrys. They also charge to teather Blackberrys to your computer. Both free for Sprint
GPS is free in BlackBerry's through Verizon. There is a charge for tethering, though. Every company is going to have its up's and down's.
A. When you take a one-brow child and tie him/her up and stick them in a closest until they pee all over. OR B. When you use your cell phone as a modem for your laptop/computer
my family has had the worst of sprint. we get billed for things that dont even work. i dont have anything downloaded from the net or even go onto the net and they bill us an extra 200 a month somethimes.... they have added random fee's onto our bills that weve decided to drop sprint as soon as the contract is up and switch to something better. sprint doesnt really have a great selection of phones either. every one of mine have broken if not come close to it and i take care of my phones. their customer service is something els.... they suck! if you ever have an issue with your sprint phone its like hell to get it fixed. you go into a sprint store only to have them give you the number for customer service. and you are then put on hold while sitting in the store for about 2 hours.... no one at sprint is competent enough to solve any issue. my dad once called about the billing issues we had. they had sent us a bill where total number of used minutes were completely wrong. they even gave us the number of hours each of us used and the math doesnt even add up... its as if saying 2+2+2+2=15...? the customer service lady couldnt even get it into head that even after adding up all of our min it dosent match the total number they billed us for... sprint sucks. i read somewhere that they do this to lots of their customers. be careful and read your bills.
depending what phone do u have.....sometimes the gps is already available.... I got the instinct from sprint...i got one issue about the gps application...if it doesn't work or go into it or giving u the error messages, all you need is to updated the application....but the bad thing is u have to wait sprint have to send it to your phone when u need to updated....that's what they did it to my phone....updated and works like it king
I've had good luck with sprint+touch+gps+google maps I've had sprint for ~6 years and have only had two small issues(both dealing with renewing, go figure) which resulted in discounted service. Only thing that really gets me about sprint is lack of picture mail, I just don't get why they can't integrate it properly.
I've got the instinct aswell! I love it. GPS is great, Websurfing is good, Email is great. I bought an 8gb card for it and dumped some music on her...very good. I would like to see more applications for it tho...
PS - Just downloaded an app from Sprint.com that integrates picture mail in a Windows Mobile phone. http://softwarestore.sprint.com/wap
As did I. The real test, is have you gotten it to work? I don't get why they can't integrate picture mail just like everyone else instead of doing like email.
i don't know what everyone is complaining about... the few times we have had issues with sprint, we call and they take care of it right away
