First I wanted a Prodrive axle back with the txs stealthback...and now I want a SPT catback with random downpipe. Everyone on here raves about the SPT catback, but I need some facts. 1. I've been told on here that the SPT catback will mate with both the donut styled and flat styled flanges of downpipes. Going over to Nasioc...it seems everyone has issues with a flat styled flange. Whats the deal? 2. I've been told the SPT is a full 3" catback...over on Nasioc, I'm reading that it's either 2.5" or 2.75". Has there been an update in the production of the SPT which is causing all of this confusion...or what is going on here?!?! It would be very helpful to hear from the owners of the SPT catback and what downpipes they are using. Also from any Subaru techs/parts people who may have any knowledge of the product beyond the consumer. Thanks!
The SPT I had worked with both the stock downpipe donut flange and my flat flange invidia downpipe. I dont remember if it necked down to 2.5" or not. Mild droning at hwy speed's in the wagon.
1. I've been told on here that the SPT catback will mate with both the donut styled and flat styled flanges of downpipes. Going over to Nasioc...it seems everyone has issues with a flat styled flange. Whats the deal? It will mate up with both stock CAT dough nut style and AFTERMARKET flat flange styles. The exhaust comes with all the hardware needed minus new gaskets. 2. I've been told the SPT is a full 3" catback...over on Nasioc, I'm reading that it's either 2.5" or 2.75". Full 3" exhaust from the stock cat back. Has there been an update in the production of the SPT which is causing all of this confusion...or what is going on here?!?! No new updated on the older SPT catbacks. We have yet to see a New 08 SPT exhaust system. But when we do were gonna try and work with the guy who purchased it to get some feedback.
Thank you!!! So if I were to mate it up with a flat flange dp...would I have to run a thicker gasket, or would the one that comes with the dp work? I'm thinking of getting the Invidia catted which is a flat styled... I wonder why there are so many different theories out there about this exhaust?
If it works for the donut and flat flanges...why all these? http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1370323&highlight=spt+flat http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1324440&highlight=spt+flat http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=633483&highlight=spt+flat Are there any other dp's that utilize the stock donut gasket? And if they do...then that must mean they taper to 2.5" right?
I have one if you want to crawl under my car and look you can, I have a Invidia dp and SPT cb .... EVERY THINGS WORK GREAT!!!!!!!!!
you have the txs downpipe...or stealthback? If you have the stealthback...are you just using the SPT axleback then?
I am using the downpipe, catless midpipe and rear exhaust pipe that came with the TurboXS Stealthback. I am just using the spt exhaust axleback section not the rear exhaust pipe that came with it. Reference this drawing for the names of the parts - stolen and modified without permission.
Dave and I put mine on I tightened the bolts that hold it to the dp, I don't get why this is so hard to comprehend ???? IT WORKS GREAT WITH THE INVIDIA DP I HAVE FOR THE LAST TIME!
I put it on myself... no it doesn't leak, yes its the sex... and I might be selling mine because I want more oooomgowa from my subies butt. yes to the minor 2.5 neck... noticable? your never gonna see it the .2% hp loss.. the spt has been known to kill small children so be careful. happy fun ball ftw
perhaps I'm not understanding. The spt catback exhaust doesn't connect to the downpipe. it connects to the midpipe.
if you have an aftermarket dp (depending on type) the SPT CB mates up to the dp. 99% of all aftermarket dp's replace the subaru midpipe (section with cats)
I don't need help installing...I just don't want to get it and a dp and have a major leak. Yes, in the 06/07 wrx's the downpipe is one big piece up until the stock cat. An aftermarket dp will go all the way to the catback. Skarecrow...if you're going to sell, let me know! And the only reason this is sooooooooooo hard for me to comprehend is because there are so many people saying it does fit flat flanges and so many people saying it doesnt. It's not like it's just some idiot out there who didn't know how to install it...it's an epidemic! well maybe not an epidemic...but definitely a good amount of people who are claiming both ways. I'm going to end up getting one, but I just want to know my dp options. If I can only get a donut styled one...I'll just get the cobb. I'll be saving enough by getting the SPT in order to pay the extra $30 for Cobb.
Technically the SPT isn't a full 3 inches the entire way. It tappers from 2.5 to 3" at the cat side. There's better choices to be had if you plan on getting a 3" downpipe now or in the future.
I don't think that little taper bothers me all that much...I mean, I don't think it's going to hinder performance.
I forgot about that, it does taper to 2.5 right there. Will it hurt performance? Probably not until your pushing major hp's.
major hps being...? I'm seeing all over the place that Cobb is claiming they dyno tested their exhaust (which tapers to 2.5") and didn't show any power restriction until about 400whp.
Just buy it. I have it on my car mated to Helix catless DP. The only issue that I have is the flange on the midpipe-catback is not welded all the way around the pipe, so use with a flange gasket may end up causing a leak unless you have someone weld the flange up all the way around it like I did.
I have a Perrin catted downpipe and the spt catback and love it. I did have a little issue but all I needed was a thicker gasket. I think it may just have been the Perrin downpipe not the spt. I love the sound!!
