Subaru Bucks are good at any dealer! Here they seem to work great, and are often used...

The SPT products are nice quality. I have the Cobb short ram, and I would highly recommend either of them as a short ram. The gains are up top, rather than down low, which some drivers say they feel a loss of torque. I'm not complaining, as I haven't noticed it.

I am wondering if it would be worth the extra 50 and not have to take it off everytime I take my car in if I went with the spt one....

cobb and others really recommend against using the SPT intake as it like any intakes will not accurately represent the true amount of airflow over the MAF sensor. The cobb intake is designed more to smooth the airflow over the MAF closer to stock but its still not exactly perfect. IMO CAI's are really better suited to MAP based cars or cars modified past the point of beng able to flow enough air through the stock airbox. They're fine on NA cars as long as it doesn't lean them out too much.

It's also worth noting the the SPT intake is not made by subaru or developed with any engineering know how from subaru. it's essentially no safer/better than any other aftermarket CAI.

SPT does NOT make a CAI...its a short ram and is almost a replica of the SPT one...they dont hurt anything...AEM CAI's DO!

Subaru tested this thing for 6 months before alowing the SPT name to be put on it, so yes they did not make it, but made sure it would not harm the car either.

Thanks for the input. I think I will hold off for now and get the new Accessport 2.0.

As a FYI the SPT intake for the LGT is not correct it was developed as a 65mm ID. The LGT has a 70mm ID MAF housing. I think this is where the bad ju ju has come about the STP intake.

Just thought i'd point out that the K&N short ram or CAI would not void your warranty either. They do not modify boost, so the warranty cannot be voided. I've never seen the K&N system set a CEL either, but the AEM....now that's another story.

So I changed my mind and got the intake and heatshield. Got it from thekingofparts.com for $245.60 including delivery. Really easy install and sounds great. Room enough to leave the OE air duct installed.

Cobb had tested the SPT intake this past summer and had concluded that it will give more power up top to an STi with their standard stage 2 map without harming the AFR and the MAF sensor readings. I believe 4-6 WHP and WTQ were made. The only thing they had against it was that the intake (being a short ram) would suffer hot air ingestion at a redlight but was only recorded to ingest ~5 degrees hotter air while cruising compared to the OEM airbox. They even offered to say that the hot air won't affect the power as much as the heatsoak the intercooler does to the intake air.

So far, Cobb did not test the 06+ WRX, 02-05 WRX, Forester XT, or the Legacy GT.

I call BS on that. I have had air temp probes in my car for over 5 years (4 different intakes, 2 different ic, 2 different turbos, and 4 ic bellows mods), and they one thing that made the intake temps go through the foor was a short ram. I was getting almost 10-15 degrees after the ic (30-50 before the ic) with the short ram.

Might help in the summer time? Less heated engine air going into intake? Bueller?

its directed air so it wont hurt it by any means.. maybe change it and make a custom duct?

anyway the heatshield will probably help keep the temps down too. did they have the heatshield in the test by cobb? and heatsoak on the topmount has to be much worse and if you care that much about intake temps then fix that problem..
