General opinion is that the SPT intake is a waste. There are more that say not to use over those that support it.
I have one and I really like it. I know that you dont need it but it is sure fun to be able to hear your BOV and turbo instead of silence!!!!
^this is for a 2.5 RS 2001...unless he did a swap or aftermarket turbo...Aqua is not going to hear any BOV anytime soon...
I have one with the heat shield on my 06 STi. I love it! Nice sound, makes the ENGINE sound better..plus the sound of ur bpv is a KOOL thing(so u dont need a bov)
I have one, it's a love / hate back and forth movement. On an NA car you would get better results from a CAI.. I Would think. it's more so designed as a way for those who really want a BOV without wanting the brief richness every shift, and some for of cool looking under the hood visual thing. performance wise In some cases it robs Hp, gets heatsoak due to the meterial it's made out of. with a tune has a gain of +1ish hp. so as far as giving you a big OOOMGAWA behind the wheel... you might be better off digging around for a nice cai and watch out when it rains. or spending that money on some other nice upgrades. imho.
or getting a normal CAI that doesn't have problems in the rain. Most don't but the SPT and all short rams have been proven to heat soak and lose power. If it was actually a cold air intake I'd consider it.
Agreed. Every car I've datalogged with a short ram (even with the heatshield) has shown to have increasing intake temps as rpms rise on a WOT run. However, with the stock airbox the exact opposite situation occurs -- temps either stay steady or will actually drop as rpms rise on a WOT run. I would imagine that the same could be said for a CAI.
Would an air-induction box help the matter? I have a co-worker that I was thinking of asking to help me design an aluminum custom induction box that would hook up to the stock wheel well connection and maybe a rubber boot on the side that would go around the intake tubing. Any input on this idea, and yes, it would be for the SPT short ram.
Yeah, that would be a pretty cool setup. And then maybe after everything is fabbed up have GrimmSpeed put on a ceramic coating on the box. Comptech has a very similar intake that I used to have on my old GSR Integra. I have yet to see one like this for a Subaru.
Well, since you say that, I'm going to give him a call. He can get almost any guage of alum. stock, can have anything bent to form, and he is a A+++ alum. welder. Just need to get some measurements and talk to him about details. But I'm going to look into it, it would be great to get some cold air to the short ram. And that may forever stop the hating on the SPT! hahaha... Justin, I'll sell you my patent....
oh my bad. urs not turbo. in that case my cousin has one and hahaha when u are racing the engine sounds like u have VTEC hahaha weird but FUN...just might get annoying a bit
