I pulled out of my driveway Friday night and heard a somewhat loud squeaking noise from the brakes. Sometimes its when I am driving and I press the breaks it stops, and then sometimes its only when I press the brakes. A friend said the callipers are sticking. It just happened all of a sudden and it comes and goes. Brake callipers for the 05 Sti are expensive arent they? I dont have the money to do a upgrade or anything else like that. Any ideas, can they be rebuilt, or do something to get them unstuck? I think its only the right rear, I can of made a educational guess, based on driving along side a concrete barrier you can hear it different, I do need brake pads in the rear soon. Am I doing more damage by driving with them like this.

Well brakes are a hard thing to figure out sometimes. Brake calipers do cost your first born son for brembos. And id suggest maybe taking your brakes apart and getting a good look for yourself. Maybe its some thing simple. Break open your Brakes open and find out.

Thats the problem I have never done brakes, at all. I have always shyed away, screwing brakes up means not stopping. Are brake callipers covered under the 60,000 mile warranty, that would be nice I still have 20,000 miles left.

just pull one side apart at a time.. then you have the other side for reference... brakes arent really rocket science...

its funny how people wont touch stuff like that cause of fear safety but the stuff they do botch.. er touch would be more safety concern half the time..

I will do alternator, starter, battery, belts, those things are pretty safe.
