So I finally got my up-pipe (STI) and downpipe (Helix catted) installed, by Nathan, who did a great job, thus far no leaks, and no CEL's. Right now my car is basically running a stage one map, can I continue to run my car with this map? Power is more than enough at the moment, and I really like the gas mileage, from what I've gathered it will drop pretty dramatically with a stage 2 map. I data logged the car on the way home, everything looked fine. IAM was 16 and holding, my boost/exhaust leak seems to finally be gone.

Car feels great, where's the dancing banana???

I think you should use the stage 2 map; but that's just me. ;)

^^^^^ try it.... you obviously watch what your car is doing, so unlike the previous owner you wont be replacing the engine in under 20000miles... besides if you dont beat on it tooooooo hard it should be ok...

keep me posted.. especially on the cat-back gasket... I wasnt convinced that thing was gonna work so sweet....

also tell your wife Karen does remember her and dinner would be fun sometime...

Well, alot of the parameters will change with the stg2 ap map. There are more changes made then just the timing and fuel. If you want to take advantage of the increased air flow, you should upgrade to the stge 2 map (the base map, not a real time map). Also, you should tune it, that alone will pick up a few extra hp and increase the low end torque so it help keep your mileage.

Yeah, I'm going to try out stage 2 for a bit for sure, but pulling down 24mpg on a bad day I really like, this car only got 20 mpg since I bought it until I started reflashing the ECU.

As far as leaks go, I though I heard it leak for a little bit, I think, still getting used to the difference in noise, atleast when in the city where I can hear my car echo off buildings, but it seemed fine again a very short time later, so maybe it wasn't leaking at all.... We'll most certainly have to do dinner one of these days.

I'll wait on a full tune because I still need a catback exhaust, a wideband o2 and some know how.

Well, even with my half tune I got now, I usually run around 24-26mpg, and if I can cruise the freeway for a bit, I am creeping up on 30mpg. Once you get rid of the stock catback, the next biggest restriction in the exhaust is the stock turbo. Just going to a bigger turbo will increase your gas milage do to getting rid of the giant bottleneck in the turbo.

Maybe you'll have to talk to my wife

Yeah the "wheels" are turning to upgrade the turbo and such, but I'll have to see what the next year holds for us, having a kid in december, but right now, I'm just in route to get all the supporting stuff done first, my next major investment (after exhaust) will probably be a much larger top mount IC. I also gotta get my LC1.

It's good to know the gas mileage won't really suffer with all the upgrades, where as I never really bought the car to be a gas miser, it still gets the best gas mileage in my garage, and I'd like to keep it up there, we do a fair amount of traveling.

On another note I did put a stage 2 map in, before work, and the car feels good, but I was having issues logging the car, so I didn't really push it hopefully I'll be able to get that fixed tonight. :)
